Preston finished reading and snapped the book shut. Immediately I worried that Luna had forgotten our love. Wait? I still knew we had been in love? Wasn't my memory supposed to be wiped of our relationship?
My head was starting to hurt from all the changes I had to think about.
First, Legion had just died last night and I wasn't even sure if I should talk to anyone about it.
Second, I had woken up here in The Pack's camp without anyone else from The Crew.
Finally, I had just been told that my memories of Luna should have been wiped, but they weren't.
And now, as I gazed towards the mountain top, I thought I saw D4 waving his arms. And jumping up and down. And yelling my name.
I stopped abruptly and stared in wonderment. "Deluxe?" I whispered.
"What did you say Side?" Vikk asked.
"Deluxe. Deluxe!" I pointed to the mountain and began to run towards the friend I had thought I lost.
We collided and I held on to the older man tightly, worried that this was some sort of mirage.
"You're not dead?" I asked when I finally released him. I hadn't realized that a few tears had escaped my eyes in happiness and I quickly brushed them away.
"I didn't die! I just woke up on this hill yesterday and then I found G this morning." He stepped aside to reveal G18 rummaging in his backpack.
"G!" I yelled and threw myself at him.
He fell onto the grass. "Fuck, Sidearms. What's wrong with you? We just saw each other two days ago."
I looked directly into his big brown eyes until he blinked and pushed me off him.
"What?" he asked with a tint of anger in his voice and then he asked again, "What's wrong with you?"
"You guys don't remember anything?" I asked.
They shook their heads.
"I would sit if I were you." They obeyed and then I began, "This isn't H2M, it's H3M. Both of you guys died last season. You've been gone for a year. We had funerals for you and everything."
Deluxe seemed to be rendered speechless for the first time in his life. He stared at me blankly.
"No." he finally managed. "You're fuckin' with us Sidearms."
"I'm not Deluxe, I swear."
"Where's Shadow?" G said suddenly.
I looked at him, confused.
"I mean, where are the others?" he amended.
"I don't know where anyone else from The Crew is. We just got switched into different groups and I'm the only one of us with this tattoo." I showed them the swords on my wrist.
"Where'd you get that?" D4 questioned.
"Not sure exactly, but it shows which new group I'm in. Blue stripe on my jacket for my old group, red sword tattoo for the new one. Do you guys have tattoos?"
They both checked their wrists and sure enough each had the swords.
"You guys are alive?!" The others had followed me up the hill.
Kenny, Brandon, Preston and Vikk looked at G and D4 like they were ghosts before everyone began to exchange hugs. I explained the situation, or at least what I understood of it.
"Well I think that here's a pretty lucky place, seeing as two people came back to life here. I'd say this become our new camp. Everyone okay with that? Good. Everyone's on their own for house building, but lets stay within render of each other." Kenny said authoritatively.
Preston and Vikk went one way, Kenny and Pete the other. I could already see how this was going to work. Our group already couldn't work well together. I was happy that I now had two of my best friends back again.
