I stepped into the battle between Luna and Brandon when I saw her attention starting to waiver. I fought with Brandon viciously, but spun around when I heard a familiar voice yell Vikk's name. G18 stood with his hands empty, staring at Vikk who I realized was behind me. I had lost track of what was going on while I was fighting Brandon. Vikk stood over Luna, who held Side in her arms and Mat was laying beside them. He wasn't moving.

I turned back to look at the unarmed G18. As I noticed a flicker of movement from Rob, a wave of fear for G came over me. I dropped my sword and ran towards him. I dove at G's waist, wrapping my arms around his small body and pushing him to the ground. The sword sailed by my head as we crashed onto the hard earth.

I immediately rolled off of G and got to my feet. My head seemed to cloud again; a feeling that I had become accustomed to since I had switched groups. The moment of seeming clarity vanished and I stepped away from G. For a second I had felt like I needed to protect him. That he was so important to me that I couldn't let him die in front of my eyes again.

Suddenly the fog in my head cleared and my memories flooded back. I remembered holding him in my arms and whispering comforting words to him as his breaths slowed. I remembered kissing him and holding his waist between my arms so that our bodies were as close as they could be to each other. I remembered spending entire nights cuddling with each other on the couch of my house watching Netflix until G fell asleep on my shoulder. I remembered how deeply in love I had been with G since I first laid eyes on him.

My eyes focused on G's big brown ones. He was looking at me, unsure. I rushed forward and wrapped my arms around him, squeezing him tight.

"G..." I breathed.

"Shadow," he said back happily.

I could feel the eyes of everyone else fixated on us, but I didn't care. My G18 was alive and wrapped in my arms and I was never letting him go again.

"Shadow, what the hell are you doing?" Rob's piercing voice cut through our moment. He grabbed my arm and wrenched me away from G, Vikk doing the same to his groupmate.

I tried to push Rob away from me, but I couldn't loosen his grip. I didn't know what to say, but luckily G saved me from having to admit our relationship.

"Shadow and I started dating before H2M. Please don't hurt Shadow, please." He begged, looking back and forth between Vikk and Rob.

Rob's grip relaxed a bit at this startling news and I took the opportunity to spring away from him. I snatched the backup sword from Rob's hand and pointed it at Vikk.

"Let go of G," I ordered and flicked the sword in his face. He immediately obeyed my words and G jumped away so that he was behind me. Vikk put up his hands in surrender and backed away from the sharp diamond sword. I heard someone approaching from behind me and turned to see Brandon. He approached carefully, his empty hands at his sides. I let him stand beside Vikk.

"This fighting has to stop," I stated boldly, knowing that it probably wouldn't be openly received. "This stupid game has messed with our minds so that we kill each other, but we're truly friends, or more than friends." I looked over at Luna and Side. She was looking up at me and she nodded with encouragement.

"We should be working together to-" I was cut off when a searing pain erupted from between my shoulder blades. I dropped to my knees as the pain spread through my back.

Then everything went black.

----

My eyes flew open to reveal the stark white ceiling of what I thought to be a hospital. My head and back seared with pain and I closed my eyes again to reduce it. I turned my head and once again opened my eyes to slits.

It turned out that I wasn't in a real hospital, although it looked like this building was trying to be one. I was still in the game. No one was present in the room. A lone torch burned on the opposite wall and there were dark shadows in the corners that the light didn't touch. I pushed back the blankets and noticed a chest with a half filled potion bottle lying atop it. I picked up the bottle and sniffed at the contents. It smelled like a healing potion.

Someone had obviously helped me get to this room and had made an attempt to save me. I remembered what had happened very clearly, but who had literally stabbed me in the back? Everyone who I knew to be in the swords group had been visible to me. Unless someone else had returned like G seemed to have done.

I mentally slapped myself. I hadn't even gotten to talk to G18 before I was attacked and now we were separated again. I stood up far too quickly and my head seared with pain. I decided to drink the remainder of the healing potion. My headache immediately dissipated and I was able to get to the door. I pushed it open slowly and it opened to reveal an unexpected sight.

It looked as if a bomb had landed in what had previously been the swords' camp. The buildings were crumbling and the ground was uneven. Fires were burning the wood away from buildings and was slowly spreading towards the building I had just exited. I rushed back into the house to see if there was anything I could use, such as a weapon or food, or anything. I didn't find anything so I hurriedly left the hospital and ran from the decimated town.

Once I was a safe distance away, I looked back and watched as the village was reduced to ashes. I was relieved that I had awoken when I had because otherwise I would be burning along with it. I wondered who had tried to help me, but then had forgotten about me when they fled. However, I didn't focus on it for too long because the night was falling and I was restarting my life in this minecraft world from nothing. There was a long road in front of me and no one here to help.
