I was ecstatic about Luna joining HTM. It would be nice to finally have a girl friend. Spending time with guys all the time, especially these ones, really took a toll on my sanity sometimes. But I wasn't blind. Luna was not as happy as I was about her group, but I couldn't blame her for her disappointment. It was obvious that her and Albi had feelings for each other. I noticed how Albi protected Luna from our onslaught after school yesterday, how he was white with fear when she went into the game and when he never left her side as she slept, my fears were confirmed. I truly felt sorry for them. The fact that they were being forced apart by this stupid game broke my heart, even though I knew why it was necessary. If people on separate teams cared too much for each other it would change the dynamics of the game. They wouldn't be able to hurt each other, let alone kill. I would never be able to hurt Brandon and the thought of him dying makes me want to throw up.

As if on queue, Brandon plopped himself down next to me on the couch and pulled me into a hug. "What's on your mind babe? It's not like you to just be sitting here alone."

"Just thinking."

"About Luna and Side?"

I looked up at him, "How did you know?"

"I'm your boyfriend. I always know what you're thinking." He chuckled slightly. "Seriously though, how could I not have noticed?"

"I want to help them Brandon, but there isn't any way to, is there?"

"Well, we could lift the rule. But that might cause bigger problems when the game starts. Other than that, I've got nothing."

I sighed sadly and looked across the room at Luna, who was watching Lachlan and Mat play a very violent game of Spot It. "I just want them to be happy, you know?"

"Don't stress about it Kara. It's a situation that's out of your control." He kissed my forehead gently.

"Okay."

I handed another plate to Luna, who took it and began to dry it.

"So," she started. "What's it like being around these guys all the time?"

I laughed, "well they're all huge pain in the butts, so there's that. Like, for example, here we are, washing the dishes, while they lounge around on their fat asses."

"What were you saying about 'fat asses'?" Brandon came in, doing his best fake hurt face.

"Nothing, nothing," I said and Luna and Brandon began to laugh.

"Here," said Brandon, taking another towel out of the drawer. "Gimme a dish."

"How long have you two been dating?" asked Luna.

"Two years. We both got inducted our freshman year and we've been dating ever since then," I answered.

"Yeah. I liked her ever since we met and I was like, heck, if one of us is going to die soon, we may as well be dating." Brandon said jokingly. I started to laugh too and punch his arm weakly.

"Oww," he said. "That hurt."

"What do you mean die soon?" asked Luna.

Shit. Bunny rabbit shit. I thought. We hadn't told her. We had forgotten to tell her! I looked at Brandon, trying to convey my thoughts to him. It worked.

"Nothing. Like, not really. Proverbial death, as in every person on this here planet is going to die soon. You know?" He rattled off quickly and nervously.

Luna nodded slowly. "Uh huh," she said.

She was too smart to believe Brandon. If I doubted any decision I had made in my lifetime it was definitely not the fact that Luna belonged in HTM. She could even be smarter than Choco, and he was the smartest person I knew.

"Well I guess now is as good a time as any to tell you about H3M." I said, not really sure if this was the right thing to do or not, but eventually she was going to find out. "You should sit, I think."

She did. And then I told her everything about H3M and the past times we had gone in the game as well. Surprisingly she never interrupted, only sat there and took in the information. I finished and sat beside her, placing my hand on her back.

Finally she said, "okay, well, okay. I think I'm going to throw up now." And then she did.
