A swat on the the butt
As they trot off to bed,
Will send quite a message
Straight to their head.
But is it the message
That you want to send,
That hitting's okay
If it makes conflict end?
And when it is fear
That lights up their eyes,
Does it still make sense
That spanking is right?
Maybe a better
Approach is to talk,
Or sit them in timeout
Until they are calm.
The kids grow up knowing
That hitting is wrong,
And home is more peaceful
When you all get along.
