An Ordinary Name

Pain is a an ordinary name for a word that encompasses all of the excruciating trials and troubles that mankind endures physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and socially.
Is that not a silly idea? To give one word so much power?
Yet we have so many words for the result of pain.
Sorrow, guilt, anxiety, anger, depression, fear, tranquility, bursting with life, agony, promising, defeat.
I see an endless sea, a roaring ocean of pain with these tiny sailboats of results bobbing on its surface, barely staying afloat.
Would it not be better if pain was many small puddles instead?
It would, but then we'd have to have more words for it.
