Once again, it was that time of year we cherish, that brings us closer to death. The wind was blowing in the pitch black night as I got up from my bed to start getting ready. After a quick shower I towel dried my medium length chocolate brown hair and went back to my room. First, I decided to do my makeup; I definitely wasn't as good as the other girls my age in this skill but I was decent enough. After applying a light base, I swiped my eyelids with a shimmery pink powder, laced my eyelashes with mascara and added a baby pink lip gloss to my lips. Then, I went to my wardrobe and pulled out the magnificent dress I'd fell in love with ever since I'd seen it. I changed into it and it fit like a glove, with its strapless top scattered with white gems and flowy netted skirt which came below my knees. Just as I was adjusting my skirt my mother came in and gasped. "Well, don't you look gorgeous?" she said, wrapping her arms tight around me. I smiled in return.

As I descended the steps to the living room I saw the house filled with guests, from long lost relatives to friends, they were all there. After a few minutes of searching, I managed to locate my dad sitting on the couch with a couple of other men who I recognised from his work place. "There's my little princess!" he exclaimed when he spotted me. I hugged him in return. " Jon, Adam, this is my lovely daughter Selena" he introduced. "Happy birthday dear" they both said in turn, to which I thanked them.

My 13th birthday was going incredibly well and I was having a lot of fun, however it was also quite tiresome. I decided to go outside for some fresh air but when I stepped out the kitchen door the chilly breeze bit at my skin sending goose bumps along my arms and legs. I headed over to my red swing, took a seat and slowly started swinging. The sky was like a black vacuum surrounding the Earth with specks of light from light years away, it was truly astounding. Suddenly I heard a loud bang from a thunderstorm emerging. Stopping the swing, I stood up and speed walked towards my house when I heard loud rustling. I stopped. My ears were filled with silence so I assumed I imagined it and continued walking.

Once inside, I blended in with the crowd. The party was in full swing even though it was well past midnight. My eyes were droopy and my feet ached in my silver strap sandals but I still danced and danced.

After God knows how long the guests started excusing themselves and left one by one until it was just me and my parents, just the way I liked it. "Did you enjoy yourself, Princess?" dad asked, coming up from behind me and ruffling my hair. "Yes, it was the best birthday ever!" I replied; and it truly was, because after that, there were no more birthdays.
