Chapter 11
“Selena, Selena!” mum said shaking my shoulders. I felt numb all over and still hadn’t recovered from shock. “Do…..do you want to go see your father?” she asked me, her eyes giving away her sadness that her voice didn’t. I nodded, knowing if I spoke I’d break down. I stood up from the uncomfortable plastic chair and walked into the room. Dad was lying there; he looked just like he did when he was first admitted here, terrible but alive. I could’ve pretended he was, if it weren’t for the monitor which showed a straight line for his heartbeat. I stood there, just staring at his lifeless body. No word in this world could describe what I was feeling right now. From that moment on, I swore to punish my father’s murderer severely.
Then I saw my fathers body being taken away and I let out a glass shattering scream which soon turned into a full out cry. I felt someone’s arm wry around me and take me away. By then I’d stopped crying and stayed silent. We got into the car and drove back to the house. The car ride was silent and the tension in the air was so thick, I could taste it. When mum turned the engine off, I ran into the house and up to my room without another word.
Selena’s mothers P.O.V (from when Selena ran out the car)
I watched her run out of the car and could understand what she was feeling right now. I wanted to run as well, run away from all my problems. But that was just wishful thinking and would do no good. I had to stay strong, for both of us. I know how it felt to have one of your parents taken away. My father also died when I was 12. I know how much I wanted my mother to be there for me and comfort me instead of locking herself in a room and escaping from reality. I wouldn’t want my daughter to feel like that so I decided to be her rock. To be the strong one, which would keep us rooted and stop us from falling apart.
Just then my cell phone began to ring. It was an unknown number but I picked it up anyway. “Hello” I said.
“Hello is this Mrs. McKenzie?” came a manly voice.
“Yes, who is this?” I asked.
“I’m Phillip Gertrude, your lawyer. I’d like to come over to discuss the case. Which time do you think would be appropriate?” Phillip asked. I think about it for a second.
“Today’s ok. How about after 2 hours?” I ask
“Yes, that’s alright. I’ll be right over” he says
“Ok, thank you” I say before disconnecting the call.
I sigh before locking the door and going inside. I’m guessing Selena’s in her room as she’s no where in sight. I go to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
Selena’s P.O.V
I sit on my windowsill and look out at the blue sky. There’s one word that’s swimming in my mind: Why? All my life terrible things have happened to me. I’ve been abused from a young age, bullied since I was 5 for being chubby and now my fathers dead. Why do all the bad things happen to me? Why can’t my life at least be normal? Every time my life starts getting normal and happy, something bad happens and everything collapses. I’m staring out the window as I hear a loud knock on my window snapping me out of this haze. The knock is later accompanied by my mums’ voice. “Lunch is ready!” she shouts.
Selena’s mums P.O.V
“Ok, I’m inviting the lawyer over so just…….stay upstairs” I tell Selena after lunch. She nods and goes upstairs. She hasn’t spoken a single word since we got back from the hospital and her eyes are hard and emotionless. Where is my happy daughter? I wonder but put that aside as I prepare for the lawyer. Just as I’ve finished, I hear a knock on the door. I open the door to a man in a black blazer, crisp white shirt, black tie and black dress pants. “Hello, I’m Phillip” he says shaking my hand. He’s carrying a black suitcase and looks like…….the stereotypical lawyer. I smile and nod. I welcome him in and bring him some tea and biscuits.
“Ok, so it is said Mr. McKenzie was killed by a lorry driver who was driving full speed. There is no evidence to say that he was drinking so it could’ve been intentional.” He tells me. I nod maintaining my calm exterior. “So the driver has been captured and his name is Peter Seine. He has given his statement and claims he was in an angry mood so he was driving fast. Therefore since it is murder, you will get money. The court decides how much. Your court date is on the 23rd November so you have a few weeks. I’m here to help you with the procedures” he explains. I nod.
“Um, where is this Peter locked up?” I ask. He laughs.
“In jail of course”
“No, I mean which prison?” I ask
“In Vanswan” he explains. I nod.
After the lawyer leaves I collapse on the couch with my head in my hands. “Oh God, Oh God” I repeat. I hear footsteps and my head shoots up to see Selena standing on the second stair, staring at me intensely. “The court date is on the 23rd and the murderers name is Peter Seine. He’s in Vanswan Prison” I tell her. She nods and goes back upstairs.
Selena’s P.O.V
I sit on my bed and read Trianna’s many texts. Where are you?, Reply ASAP, You said you were gonna come over! But just delete all of them. I have a feeling everything changes from now on. I know nothing will be the same from now on. My future is in my hands and I decide if I will be strong and bring justice or be weak and back down. I should’ve known not to take advantage of my parents. Happiness is only a momentary illusion and it’s better if you avoid it.
As I went downstairs for dinner I couldn’t help but feel sorry for my mother. She was doing all this, staying strong JUST for me. She had every right to be breaking down, crying a river but she didn’t. She’s staying strong for both of us and I really appreciate. But I will NOT feel sorry for her. Feeling any emotion for anyone will only end up in pain therefore from now on I refuse to feel anything for anyone.
Mum had made waffle with maple syrup and sprinkles. It was delicious! But I didn’t once smile or say thank you. Yeah, it might seem rude but I didn’t care. “Goodnight, sweetheart” mum said coming up to hug but I jerked away. I nodded and went back upstairs. After I changed I looked into the mirror. I need a new look for a new me. I decided that I was going to dye my red hair blonde and add black streaks. I also needed a new wardrobe, my clothes were too colourful. I needed dark colored clothes, hoodie’s, sneakers and black make up.
After writing up a list of things I needed for the new me, I decided to relax and go to sleep.
So, hope you guys enjoyed it. Wat do ya think of Selena's 'new identity'? I would've uploaded sooner but it's kinda difficult wen ur writing two stories at once. I swear man, it's so confusing. Once, I thought there was a characted named Ethan in this book and I was so convinced it was. But turns out Ethan was in another story. God, I'm so forgetful. Anyways, who's ur fave character so far? If you have any ideas of things that could happen in the story then plz let me know. ANYWAYS, before I go, u know the usual, vote/comment/fan. Thankyou and peace out world! *does peace out sign*
