Chapter 16
“Selena!” someone called my name, but it sounded far away. I was lost…..somewhere…but then I awoke to someone shaking me. It was…..my history teacher. I screamed a high pitch girly scream hoping to get away, wake up from this but….I didn’t. He came towards me then and put his hand over my mouth trying to silence me. “Ssh, I’m here to help you!” he whispered ferociously causing me to shut up. For the first time I looked around at my surroundings, it was dark and there were billions of cardboard boxes scattered around. It looked as if I was in some warehouse. I tried to get up but realized I was tied to a chair so I struggled but it was no use. Mr. Saltzman produced a knife and I gasped because he looked exactly like a serial killer. However instead of putting a knife through my heart, he used it to cut the rope that held me captive. I gasped and stood up hugging him. “Thank you” I said in appreciation. He quickly pulled back and I felt an electric shock as he grabbed my hand. “We don’t have time, we must escape” he said and pulled me towards the door.
“Oh look at that, the knight in shining armor” came a voice. I couldn’t make out who it was because it was so dark. I heard footsteps approaching and I tried to hide but I wasn’t quick enough. The person approached me and I saw it was Ethan. I released the breath I was holding. “Ethan?!” I asked in shock just as he grabbed my throat and tried to strangle me as Mr. Saltzman tried to push him off.
I awoke panting for air and sat upright in bed. My body was drenched in sweat as I looked around realizing I’d just had a bad dream. “It’s just a bad dream, It’s just a bad dream” I repeated to myself trying to control my breathing. After I’d calmed down I got out of bed and walked slowly to the bathroom, my head spinning lightly. I peeled my sweat drenched clothes off and threw them in the dirty clothes basket as I stepped underneath the ice cold shower. I shuddered but after a while I got used to the coldness. After showering I changed into black draping crepe shorts and a black tank top. I brushed my long blonde hair and tied it into a donut bun. Before heading downstairs I wore my black ‘frenchi curved hem blazer’.
After getting ready I ran downstairs in studded black suede ankle boots and mum looked up at me as if there was a stranger in her own home. I rolled my eyes and headed straight to the door but she caught me. “Aren’t you going to eat breakfast honey?” she asked me. I turned around and gave her a ‘really?’ look. “Mum, listen here. If I was going to eat breakfast don’t you think I’d be going to the dining table instead of the door?” I asked her. She winced at my ice cold tone.
“Oh” was all she said as I turned and walked out the door. I couldn’t handle seeing her like this; I hated myself for being the sole reason for her pain. I was meant to be there for her and support her just like any daughter would if her father passed away but I wasn’t a daughter. I was a monster.
As I walked to school Abigail came up to me and fell into step. “Thanks for waiting” she said sarcastically and I rolled my eyes. “You look nice by the way” she complimented. I smiled; she always knew how to cheer up a person. “Thanks” I said and we fell back into the silence. When we reached the school, Abigail turned to go but I stopped her. “Yh?” she asked. I looked around before asking “Hey, you seen that new history teacher?” She nodded.
“Is it just me or does he look……too young?” I asked her.
“Hmm I guess….why?” she asked. I shrugged.
