Chapter 3
I woke up with a terrible headache for some reason. I groaned and got out of bed at 7:15. I showered and changed into my white skinny jeans and a baby pink crop top and a full sleeved pink cardigan. Then I shoved my chemistry, English, Maths, media, and design technology book in my bag. After that I went downstairs with my bag, I plopped my bag on the couch and went and sat on the dining table. Dad was away for a week’s business trip so I was left with mum. She sat down with her tea and biscuit, and then stared at me in surprise. “What? get your own breakfast? I’m not your servant” she said, her words stung but I ignored her. “You know what? Fine, I’ll just skip breakfast” I shot back. She glared at me whilst drinking her tea, but I simply grabbed my bag from the couch and went out the door.
I arrived at Connors High School at eight o’clock, fifteen minutes before school started. I sighed and went to my form room. I saw that no body was there but sat in my seat anyway. My head was really hurting now. So, I put my head down on the table and it was soo peaceful and quiet that I felt like going back to bed. But every good dream has to come to an end, and after a couple of minutes everyone started coming in, filled with gossip.
Soon, Mr. Kanae (my form tutor) entered and everyone quietened down. “Good morning, students.” He greeted. My head hurt even more now, which is wasn’t as peaceful and quiet as it was before. So I went upto him. “Sir, can I please go to sick bay. My head is hurting a lot” I asked. He examined closely then nodded. I went back and brought my bag whilst he wrote me a note. “Thanks” I said and made my way to sick bay.
“Hey, Selena. What’s the matter?” Cindy (the school nurse) asked.
“I have a terrible headache” I replied, handing her my permission slip from Mr. Kanae. She nodded and then felt my head, she pulled away quickly. “Wow, you’re burning” she said in amazement. “Do you want to go home? It looks like you’re coming down with a terrible fever” she asked. I nodded. Cindy had always been very nice to me. She wrote me a note and told me to take it to the office. “Oh and when you’re giving them the note make yourself look really sick” she winked and I smiled in return.
I went to the office and handed the posh looking lady behind the counter. She read it, and then nodded. “Are you going to go home by yourself or would you like to call your guardian?” she asked. I faked a cough (which really hurt my head!) before replying. “I’ll be fine, thanks.” Then I made my way home slowly. Suddenly, my phone beeped. A text. From mum? ‘School text me that you’re going home, call me when you reach home’ it said. ‘K’ I text back.
I arrived home feeling awful; it seemed as if the headache was only getting worse. I called mum just like I said. “So, what’s the deal?” she asked.
“What do you mean?” I asked. I heard her sigh on the other end of the line.
“What’s up with you? Why’d you come home?” she asked.
“Oh, I’ve got a terrible headache and fever” I answered.
“Ok, whatever. If you’re really feeling ill I want you in bed” she said and ended the call. I decided she was right so I went upstairs.
I grabbed a paracetamol (medicine) then went to bed. I stayed there for a while then fell asleep.
I was running fast. My heart was soo pounding soo fast that I was scared it might fall out or burst or whatever. I looked around as I was running, I was in a forest. It was soo dark in the forest yet it seemed soo familiar. Then it hit me, it was the forest behind my back garden! I looked back and saw a massive pack of wolves, werewolves to be precise running towards me. I felt as if my eyes would pop out at the sight of those hungry wolves running towards me. But I quickly gathered myself and started running full speed. I ran and ran until my legs couldn’t carry me anymore. I panted near a large oak tree and looked back to see no sign of the wolves. I turned, relived only to be faced by the same pack of wolves gathering in on me. They walked slowly in a circle, closing in on me. I felt soo scared that I started shedding tears. I was going to die. Noooo! I’m too young! I haven’t even gotten my sweet sixteen birthday! Just then a wolf leapt towards me, scaring the life out of me. Noooo!
I screamed and then opened my eyes. I looked around to find out that I was in my room, safely in bed. However, one thing that I wasn’t glad to discover was that I was covered in sweat, loads of it! I pushed my fat duvet aside and a chilly breeze made me shiver. I went to close the window which was wide awake. Suddenly, my head started pounding and my headache returned. I groaned and looked out the window randomly. Then I remembered mum and looked at the clock, it was only 2:54. I sighed and went downstairs to grab a snack from the kitchen.
I grabbed some biscuits and sat at the mini table in the kitchen and ate my jammy dodgers (type of biscuit) and custard cream (type of biscuit). I was in the middle of my yummy custard cream when I heard a loud knock on the door to the back garden. My mouth hung open when I saw a guy standing in the garden. He was wearing a long black coat. He had gorgeous hazel hair and amazing hazel eyes which I couldn’t stop looking at. Then I remembered something, he was the same guy who I had seen behind the bush. I froze and he knocked again, annoyed at me.
“Wh…..Who are you?” I hesitated at the door.
“Just let me in, please” he said. I looked at him once again before opening the door. He came in and sat on the chair and grabbed the last custard cream on my plate. “Hey” I said and glared at him but he just simply laughed.
“So, who are you exactly? And, why are you here?” I asked. He stopped laughing.
“Alright, Alright. I’m Ethan Glass. And I’m a……………werewolf” he replied. Now, it was my turn to laugh. I laughed soo much that my stomach started hurting but when I saw him looking at me seriously I stopped. “I’m not kidding, Selena” he said. I remembered the time when the wolves attacked but I never knew that you could turn into a werewolf if another werewolf bit you, I thought that it was untrue even though I read about it in stories. “Wait, ok. Fine, I admit I’m a werewolf but how do you know me when I haven’t even met you before except that time when you were changing?” I asked.
“You see, when you were bit I was told by the king of werewolves to keep an eye on you because you hadn’t changed straight away when you were bit, and you should’ve changed. So the he told me to take care of you when you changed” he explained.
“Okay, so why are you here?” I asked again. He sighed then smiled.
“I was right; you really do love asking questions. I’m here to check if you’re about to change.” He explained. He moved towards me and for a second I though he was going to take out a secret knife but he simply took my hand and pulled up my cardigan sleeve. I blushed and felt chills in my body when he examined it. There was mark there; it looked like a dark blue tattoo of a crescent moon. My mouth hung open once again when I saw it. I was speechless. “It shows that you’re a werewolf and it turns ark blue when you’re about to change.” He explained seeing my open mouth. He lifted my chin up so my mouth was closed.
“It’s turning really blue and you’ll probably change at midnight so I’ll come to you then” he explained pushing my sleeve down.
“But, what will happen when I change? Will mum know?” I asked in a panicked voice. He sat me down on the table. “Relax, you’ll change at midnight and turn back to human in the morning” he explained.
“But I need to wake up for school at 7:15.” I said.
“I know you’ll change back around 7:00” he explained. “Well, I guess I should go now. I’ll meet you at midnight in your back garden. Be here, ok?” he asked. I nodded in return. Then he left through the back door.
I went back upstairs trying to make sense of everything. I still couldn’t believe it. I was about to grab another paracetamol when I remembered how some people could die of overtake of medicine so I left it and went back to sleep.
I slept throughout the day and I woke up at nine o’clock.
