Chapter 1
I still remember that day, when the wolves attacked. Now I'm sitting in my room thinking about my life and how it changed. When I was little I got cared for, I was loved and now, look at me! How my life has changed.
"Selena! Come eat your dinner" shouted mum. I could feel the hatred in her voice everytime she spoke to me; I'd forgotten how she spoke to me before. Tears pricked at my eyes but I wiped them away bravely, there was no use in crying for what was long gone.
"Coming mom" I shout back. I hurry out of my bedroom and go downstairs to the kitchen. "Yes?"
"Come have your dinner" she said. She laid my dinner on the table and told me to clean up afterwards because she was going to a party with dad.
"Yes, mum, I'll clean-up" I reply. Then she left the kitchen without a goodbye.
I cleaned up after eating then went upstairs to my bedroom. I sat down on my couch. Suddenly, my phone started ringing. Mum. I answered. "Hey mum" I said.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. I want you in bed by 12:00. In the morning we'll be home from 8 to 9. Your dad has an important meeting in Luton but we'll be home by seven in the afternoon." She explained.
"Yes, mum. Anything else?" I asked.
"No" she replied then closed the call. She never said goodbye and expected me to wait for her to end the call.
I sighed then opened my media textbook. I started reading it but after a while I closed it shut. I phoned Melissa and after four rings she picked up.
"Hey, I was wondering if you were free." I asked
"Actually, I'm out with mum shopping" she replied. I sighed loudly.
"Well, ok. Hope you have fun. Bye" I said.
"Bye" she replied. I went to my cupboard and pulled out my blue pyjamas. They were my favourite pyjamas because dad gave them to me on my birthday. They were decorated with small white bunnies and reminded me so much of my childhood.
I was buttoning my top when suddenly I heard a loud crash then a pouring noise. I quickly buttoned it and went to my window to look out. The sky looked very different from the last time I looked out. Dark grey clouds had settled in and it was raining heavily. I heard another loud crash which made me wince. It was the thunder, loud and threatening; ruling over the world and daring to strike.
I sat there on the window sill, my mind elsewhere. Suddenly, it all came rushing back to me in full speed. It was so powerful that I felt a jolt of pain as I remembered the shivering sensation that ran through me whilst I lay in bed. It all started back when ..........
Mum kissed me goodnight then turned of the light. I was looking up at the pink ceiling in my room when I heard a scream coming from downstairs. So I made my way cautiously down the stairs. When I arrived everything seemed normal so I turned to go back upstairs when I heard another scream. This one louder and close. It was coming from the back garden. I walked towards the back door and out into the back garden. Back then I was only child, too naïve to know the dangers of the dark. I stepped into the misty black night hoping to find a person screaming but it was also unusually normal. I suddenly saw movement from the side of my vision.
My mum was on the floor, screaming in agony. I ran towards her wondering why she was crying. I was about to touch her arm, comfort her but she jerked back. "Get away from me!" she screamed. Her voice was soo clear and angry that I winced. "Why? Why have you ruined my life you brat?!" she asked. I started crying then unsure of her sudden behaviour. I didn't know what was wrong. "What's wrong mummy?" I asked in a small and innocent voice hoping to calm her down. But it only made her angrier. "Don't you..." she began pointing a finger at me. "Don't you dare call me mummy" she yelled at me which only made the tears fall from my eyes faster. I stared towards the back door hoping dad would come any minute but he didn't. I held her hand but she closed her fingers around my other arm so tightly it hurt.
She got up from the floor and dragged me towards the back fence. Her blonde hair was all over the place and her make-up was completely ruined. I knew she was taking me somewhere terrible but I didn't pull back. I couldn't. She pushed me towards the dark fence roughly. The sharp points at the top of the fence dug into my skin deeply and after a while I looked down at my shirt to see blood stained all over it. It hurt so much that I couldn't even scream in agony, instead a tear rolled my cheeks from my eyes. "What are you doing?" I asked her still not convinced she was trying to hurt me.
"I'm doing what I should've done ages ago" she answered. She pulled opened the back fence door and pushed me. I grazed my knee really badly but I daren't wince. I couldn't believe it was happening. I didn't want to believe it. So I was still hoping she'd turn back around, look at me and pull me into her arms but she didn't. She continued walking back towards the house.
After a few hours when I was sure she wasn't going to return I made my way slowly towards the back door, blood still trickling down my leg. As I was about to open the back door my dad opened it. He looked shocked when he saw me and demanded to know what happened. I couldn't tell him. I wouldn't. "I fell down from the hill. I sneaked out and I accidentally slipped." I lied. He looked really worried and as much as I wanted to tell him the truth I knew better. "Oh, dear. Let's get you inside" he whispered. He carried me to the living room where mum was sitting watching TV. She glared at me as dad sat me down on the table and rushed to get the medical box. "Would you look what happened to Sel. Where were you?" he asked. She glared at me this time for much longer.
"Oh, I put her to sleep. I didn't know when she sneaked out" she replied. Dad quickly put some ointment on my stomach and knee. Then he bandaged my knee and put an extra large plaster on my stomach. I went back to bed after that and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow, not knowing that today would change everything.
My phone rang pulling me back to reality. Mum.
"Hey, mum" I greeted.
"Why aren't you asleep yet?" she questioned, her voice stern. I gulped and hesitated remembering her telling me to go to bed by 12:00. I searched the room until my eyes rested on my small purple clock that hung from the wall, it was 12:55.
"Ummmmm...... you see I was going to go to sleep just now" I lied then stifled a yawn to add to the effect. To my surprise she actually believed it, well that's what I thought so until she replied "Ok, but I'll phone later on to check and there'll be serious consequences if you're not!" With that she ended the call.
I got in bed and pulled the duvet tight around me. I was shivering. I looked around the room then found the window. It was open. I got out of bed and went to shut it. After shutting it I stood there for a while not wanting to go back to bed. I was about to turn around when I heard a loud howl. Confused I turned around and saw something move in the green bush in the back garden. It was shortly followed by a more rustling and then what I saw shocked me. It was a shadow of a head of a wolf then suddenly the wolf's head slowly morphed into a human's one. It was shaking so badly I got worried.
I pulled on my long grey coat and went downstairs as fast as I could. I slipped on an old pair of slippers and rushed out the back door. I moved towards that bush. Something about it seemed so familiar, and then it hit me. It was the same bush that the noises had come from on my birthday. I suddenly jerked back at that thought. However, after a while I continued towards the bush. "Who........Who's there?" I asked my voice shaking terribly. I didn't know what it could be but what I saw next really surprised me. It was a..........
