Chapter 63: Awkward

Finally, a true update for you guys! You never know how much you need Wi-Fi until it's gone...
My Spring Break Hiatus is officially over, but I'm not promising anything ~ I'm trying to recuperate because JETLAG SUCKS but anyway...

This chapter switches perspectives between you and Bender.

Your POV:

That night, you decided to sleep at Planet Express. For reasons consisting of one word: 

Awkward.

You couldn't go back to Bender's apartment, not after what had just happened. So you grabbed a blanket and slept on the couch. 

The next morning was different. 

Bender seemed to avoid you completely, like when he came through the front door, he just grabbed his beer and walked quickly to the TV room. Fry followed suit, looking about as confused as you were. He didn't look you in the eye. In fact, it looked as if he had lost confidence - he seemed shy, almost. 

And since we're talking about Bender, that is a VERY BAD THING. 

Every time you ran into him, he just moved to a different room. It took a few occurrences like this for you to realize that he was embarrassed or something. Either way, he was ignoring you. 

In the afternoon, you finally caught him alone in the kitchen. As soon as he made way to leave, you said, "Bender please." He froze, sighed, then turned to you, looking at your face for the first time that day. You saw that his eyes were wire-shot, which was the robot equivalent of bloodshot. What happened? you found yourself worrying. Then you asked him. 

"Why are you avoiding me?" 

Bender's POV

She asked the question, and it took all my will not to snap at her and say "I'm not avoiding you!" It took a few seconds for me to regain my composure, then I spoke. 

"I'm...broken."

Which, for the record, wasn't a lie. But it wasn't the whole truth. Yes, I was broken, but I didn't know for sure. Ever since last night, my entire system had gotten screwed up. I had been running system diagnostics all night - quick scans, deep scans, the works. But nothing appeared on it. It said I was fully functional. 

"Oh," was all she managed to say. 

She gave me an odd glance, then started out of the room. 

"I need you." I blurted. Now it was her turn to freeze and turn to look at me incredulously. 

Idiot, I thought to myself. 

"To help me." I said, quickly recovering after my mistake. 

Her face went from shock and confusion, to a smile. "What do you need help with?" She said, somewhat cheerful. 

I hesitated. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted her to do. 

Your POV

Wow, if the situation hadn't been awkward before, it was definitely awkward now. He didn't say anything for a moment. You didn't know if he had meant to say "to help me" or if he was just covering up something. You pushed these thoughts aside and answered your own question. 

"Do you want me to look at your main circuitry?" You suggested. 
"Sure," he mumbled and opened up his stomach panel. 

Bender's POV

Only when she walked toward me did I realize the amount of tension that was between us. It hung like a thick fog, enveloping me, her, and the entire room. I couldn't even look at her. What happened to you, Bender? I growled at myself. I turned my head as she crouched and looked and gingerly opened my control panel. 

I had to grit my gears to not flinch at the touch. 

She probed through the wires and circuit boards, while I tried to keep my electronic pulse steady. She pulled out one particular one slowly. She stood up and examined it. 

"Well, your logic circuit is being...are you confused?" She looked at me. 
"Nope." I said, temporarily regaining my usual tough demeanor. 

She frowned, looked back at the chip, then back at me. She shrugged. "Anyway, it's acting weird, but I'm not entirely sure what's wrong, so you might want to check it out." She held it out for me to take.  

 I tentatively took it from her hand. I closed my stomach panel, but not all the way, since the wire was still coming through it. 

"Thanks," I managed, then strode out. As soon as I was out of her sight, I sprinted out of Planet Express and went towards the apartment. 

Awkward, thy name was Bender.
