HILOOOOO

I'm so sorry this chapter took such a while to come out (even though it's short). I thought I had last updated on 8/12/2018 and I was like "hey, it's 7 days later iM ON TIMEEE"

But I actually last updated on 8/4/2018. So I'm actually 15 days late hHHHH

Apparently I don't know how time works?? my bad y'all TwT

Anyway, thanks for being patient with me as I slowly fall into this schedule. I'm setting reminders for myself and writing chapters in advance so I can keep up. Let's hope I understand days better at least XDD

also there is a lot of POV switching here soRRY NOT SORRY

{ BENDER'S POV }

When I woke up, I was surprised to see (Y/N) was not there.
Oh ffs- I messed up or somethin, didn't I? I thought to myself as I climbed out of the empty bed. I got ready for the day and headed to work. Maybe (Y/N) was already there.

When I arrived, I heard quiet chatter in the building. I turned around the corner and saw her hunched over a pile of papers, mumbling to herself about whatever she seemed to be working on.

"Uh, hey," I waved awkwardly. The fear about today's events made me self-conscious and nervous. Great. Freaking fantastic.

She instantly stood up and hugged me comfortingly. "Hey there, Bender! Is everything okay?"

"Why were you here so early?"
She blushed slightly. "I wanted to make sure everything ran smoothly today... so I came a bit earlier to check the coding and make sure that everything will run okay."
"How early is 'earlier'?" I asked suspiciously.
She looked at the ground and shuffled her feet, embarrassed. "5:30am..." she mumbled.

"WHAT!!" I yelled, dragging a hand across my face. "Humans need their sleep. Even I know that. You're insane..."
"Sorry," she said meekly.
"But... I do appreciate it. Seriously. You didn't have to do that," I looked away, feeling bad. She didn't have to do that for me. Sometimes I wondered if I even deserved this girl.

"Well, but I wanted to!" She said cheerfully.
"Damn, if I had as much energy as you do in the morning, I'd be a completely different person..." I muttered and she laughed.

Her face then took on a serious expression as she put her hand into mine. "Are you... ready to do this, Bender?" her eyes studied me, trying to gauge my reaction.

"Ready as I'll ever be," I grumbled. I could hear footsteps in the building. Leela and the doc were probably already here. I tried to keep my focus on not panicking and (Y/N).

{ YOUR POV }

You saw Bender's tension slowly growing. He had a right to be nervous about this. He had spent some time thinking about the situation and you figured out another huge reason he was so afraid. He had told you yesterday that he was worried that you wouldn't care about him if he changed (which would be completely false).

The reason he hadn't mentioned was the rift in-between nekos and robots, and more importantly, your shared experiences with that rift. Namely, when Bender turned "evil" and tried to hurt you in your neko form. Bender was worried about something similar happening but he hadn't said anything, and you felt bad that you hadn't picked up on it. It was another huge thing that made him seem more vulnerable in this whole situation.

You thought about all this as you hooked up all the cords to Bender. Once everything was attached, you gave a quick glance to your desktop to make sure Bender's backup from a few days ago was still there. It was (thankfully) but it never hurts to double check.

Once Bender was all hooked up, you took his hand in yours, giving him a comforting squeeze. "It'll be alright. Just hang in there, okay?"

Bender nodded at you, squeezing your hand back. You broke from him and turned on the switch.

The whole machine whirred as Bender's eyes turned static and then closed. You heartbeat raced. What would happen if it went wrong? You weren't perfect at coding. You stressed about it for several minutes until the update was complete.

{ BENDER'S POV }

She flipped the switch and suddenly, everything became static. My systems were mostly offline and I couldn't see. I felt a sharp pain in my abdominal wiring and I tried not to move or wince. The pain spread everywhere and then sloped down, until there was only a small ache in my heart and other core circuitry.

My vision was still static when the update completed. I could practically feel internal coding being changed, and it felt strange. It was like someone was changing you and your personality, without your control. I'd be lying if I said it didn't scare me and make me angry.

Then all of a sudden my vision ceased to be static-y (my eye panel was still down). Was it finally over? I had no idea. My brain felt like a jumbled mess, as if someone had just thrown me into water. I couldn't think straight and I was worried about everything.

Then my vision cleared.

{ YOUR POV }

You could see Bender's robotic retinas clear up as his vision came into focus. Then he did something you would've never expected.

All of a sudden, he burst into tears.
