Today she turned an adult according to the laws of nations and from this day onwards she will operate for the colony. This is the last day of free provisions; therefore from tomorrow onwards she will have to earn her supplies.

She took the glass elevator to the 65th floor of the colony building where supplies are served and humans once used to call served things food. In the provisions court she went to her usual booth, the one by the window. She introduced her left hand into the ring present at the top of the booth, and watched the blue beam of laser cover her wrist. The blue laser passed her the necessary carbohydrates that she required to function in the present day, 37 hours to be exact. She removed her hand when the laser died. A glass tumbler containing a yellow tinted substance that was semi liquid-semi solid appeared where she had withdrawn her hand. She swallowed the content. It was the measure of minerals everyone was served at the colony for a day which left a sour taste in her mouth.

Humans do not eat food here. This is not the Earth that had been their home for years in the past. This is Styx, the planet that humans took as their new home.
