The Woods {Kaylor}

Shadow.

Taylor's pov:

Karlie came and got me after a total of two days. I feel like her child but for some reason I don't mind. Well..for now at least.

We now follow the dirt trail that leads back to the cabin.

"Hey I got you something" Karlie breaks the silence and reaches into her ragged, jacket pocket and pulls out something small with a string attached to it

I take it from her slightly dirty hands into my own. I run my fingers over the small, wooden cross. I examine the sharp edges and the light brown color it shows

"It's a T" she tells me "For Taylor" she adds as she looks at her feet that kick small rocks

"Where'd you get it?" I ask turning my head towards her direction

"I made it" she smiles at me softly

I smile back "Thank you. It's beautiful" I give her a side hug and a gentle kiss on her cheek as a friendly gesture

"You're welcome" she blushes

We've been walking in silence for quite a while now, taking in the nature around us. But suddenly I hear a sound. Or a melody I should say. Someone is whistling.

Me and Karlie glance at each other before she grabs my hand and pulls me behind a large oak tree to become hidden.

I do nothing but listen to the melody that gets louder as it seems to get closer. And then I realize that I recognize the song. Oh no. It can't be. I peek around the tree, but only to confirm my thoughts. It's Jake.

Karlie's pov:

Taylor has been in the bathroom awfully long and I wonder why. I only hope she isn't sick. It's not easy to get medicine around here. Ya know..ever since the Separation. I finally decide to check up on her "Taylor?" I knock on the closed, wooden door. A minute later the door clicks open to reveal the blonde

She stares at me "Hi" she says softly

"Are you ok?" I ask in a concerned voice. I can tell she's been crying

She nods "I'm fine"

"Liar." I state

She huffs "I'm fine Karlie"

"No you aren't it's obvious. I'm your best friend you can tell me" I say

She stares at me "Can I ask you something?" She asks

"Ya go ahead" I say

"When I was at Cara's camp, she accidentally let something slip. She didn't realize you hadn't told me" she bites her lip

"Told you what?" I ask. All my secrets run through my mind hoping she doesn't know the worst one

"Why didn't you tell me your parents died from the Nakoons?" She asks

My heart jumps and my face turns cold "Did you really just ask me that? Taylor it's not exactly something I just tell a person that I just met. We've only known each other for like a week" my voice stone

"Karlie I didn't mean to upset you I'm-"

"No!" I stop her. I see the lump in her throat as she swallows and tears well up in her eyes

I suddenly feel bad. Why am I so weak? "Look. We've both been through some shit. Can't we just forget it?" I ask in a now calm voice as I turn around
