Miss Wren was shocked at the sight of me, to say the least.
The moment she saw me, her eyes widened in disbelief.
"My saints, Mr.Portman! Parton me, but why are you here?" I couldn't blame her for the surprise. I was covered in dirt and grime and probably looked like I had just crawled out of the grave.
I glanced around. The menagerie hadn't changed much. The sky the same pale blue it had been before, the clouds still a perfect white in the sky. It had taken us forever to get out of the woods and up the mountaintop. The darkness of the night was gone and replaced by a bright sunny morning.
"Where have you two been?" Miss Wren asked Fiona and Addison, placing her bony hands on her hips. "I've been looking everywhere!"
"Miss, we were in the woods by the Giant's head, you know Cuthbert, and we saw Jacob just appear out of thin air with someone! They started to brawl and when Fiona realized what he was, she took care of it." Explained Addison.
"There was no reason for the you two to be down there in the first place." Miss Wren pointed out. "And what do you mean by 'took care of it'?"
"Killed him," I said, wincing slightly at her appalled look. "But for good reason. The others are in-"
Jacob.
My name cut through my mind like a blade, sending a wave of pain through my brain worse than any headache I'd ever had. I cringed, pressing my palms against my temples. The voice was familiar. The panicked tone sent an alarm off inside me.
"Mr.Portman, are you alright? What's wrong?" Asked Miss Wren, looking slightly worried, taking me by the arm.
My mind barely processed what she was saying, man thoughts whirling.
I'm really losing it, I thought, shaking my head.
I quickly turned to face Miss Wren, rapidly explaining my current situation while Miss Wren hung on to every word I spoke. I explained everything. My new ability, how some of us were separated from Miss Peregrine, and now I was separated from all of them because of a single wight that we saw the night before. I explained how I knew there were more wights because right before I accidentally teleported away from Emma and the others, I saw two more running after them. When I finished, breathing heavy, Miss Wren gave me a look similar look to the one my Dad had given me when I tried to explain to him the "Monsters" I was seeing before I found out I was peculiar. She was looking at me like I had gone totally batshit crazy.
After a few moments, she cleared her throat politely and said, "Are you feeling alright, dear? You look exhausted. How about you get some rest? Don't you remember? You killed all the wights and hollows. They can't possibly be back." She patted my back and looked at Fiona and Addison for reassurance, but only got solemn looks in return.
Her eyes widened, "You can't be serious?"
When the two them said nothing, Miss Wren turned to me.
"You even have a new ability?" She asked, falling lightly into a nearby chair.
"Yeah, I can teleport."
Miss Wren's eyes widened, "You now have two abilities?" She asked in a shaky voice. "That's not supposed to be possible."
"Yeah..." I said a little hesitantly, knitting my eyebrows together in confusion.
"Oh no." Miss Wren said, abruptly standing up from her chair. "This is not good... not good at all." She started to pace around her small living room. Fiona looked at Miss Wren in concern, probably thinking of something she wouldn't be able to say. Instead, Addison, who seemed to have become Fiona's mouth of sorts, spoke up.
