I walked inside and stopped feeling completely lost. There were rows of hallways everywhere and lockers taking up almost all the walls. Everything looked so identical that there was hardly any way to tell them apart.
Anxiously, I took out a paper with my schedule and tried to find my first class. I could do this.
Ten minutes after the bell of aimlessly walking around, a teacher finally helped me find my class. Feeling nervousness rolling over me, I walked into my designated class. Second period hadn't even started and I was already getting lost.
As soon as I took a step into the crowded class a teacher with a head of curly, gray hair staring at her computer screen hissed sourly. "You're late!"
"Um. . .I'm new", I managed to choke out feeling the weight of at least thirty pairs of eyes on me.
Instantly her bitter behavior lightened. A friendly smile replaced her scowl and she looked up from her computer. "Oh my apologies. . .come and introduce yourself to the class", she shot me a reassuringly smile.
Nervously, I walked up into the front of the class hearing whispering. No doubt, they were talking about me. I looked at the class. Most of the students had a calming smile while others gave me an emotionless stare.
"Uh . . .my name is Elissa", I stated awkwardly, not knowing how to begin. Since it was my first time doing this, I had no idea what to say but hopefully by last period I would be better at introducing myself to the class.
"Pretty name", someone shouted out. I turned and saw a blonde girl , grinning at me.
I smiled feeling some of the earlier tension leak out of me. "Thanks and I'm from North Dakota" A little of me earlier tension was exiting my body as I slow grew comfortable.
The optimistic outlook I felt turned to disbelief when almost immediately they all gave me a blank stare as the class went into a sudden silence.
"Where is North Dakota?" Someone asked rudely. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. It was obvious these kids didn't know their states. . .
"Up North next to. . .",I was rudely cut off.
"Okay that's good enough. . now go sit down." The teacher snapped, scooting me along. She was probably trying to quickly cover up the fact that nearly half her students didn't have an idea where North Dakota was and this was geography class.
It wasn't my fault that she didn't teach her kids correctly.
Nonchalantly, I rolled my eyes and scanned the classroom for a seat. A girl raised her hand; the same girl that had said my name was cute. "Come sit by me", she yelled lowly. With a grateful smile, I hurried and took my seat, setting my old bag down.
"Hi I'm Trish." A girl with silky, dirty blonde hair and decorated brown eyes said to me.
"Hi", I replied shyly, not knowing exactly what else to say. She already knew my name so I couldn't offer her that and I was still nervous with it being my first day.
She smiled and pointed to another girl. "This is Alice. . .she can be a real bitch sometimes" she giggled as the girl she was referring to laughed with her. She had long brown hair and stunning gray eyes.
The next girl she pointed to had short blonde hair and bluish-green eyes, her eyes stared at me coolly. "And this is Sarah. . .she's the calm one", Trish added after a few seconds.
"Hi." I waved. They both waved and turned towards Trish and began to gossip as class started. Even though, I had no idea who Bonnie was that was secretly pregnant or Jeff, who got arrested the day before, they still tried to join me in the conversation. Feeling a little bit relieved, I smiled listening as they laughed and mingled. I had already found new friends on the first day, maybe Aleeth High wouldn't be that bad after all.
