"Oh Amanda!" Gwen calls. "I have a letter for you!"
I shut my book and climb out of bed. Hayley is hanging out with Brett, and Cassidy and Emily said that they were busy. Derik said that he had something to do. Recently I have noticed that Derik is becoming more and more distant in the past few days.
"Really?" I ask coming into the living room. "A letter for me?"
"Yeah," Gwen says gently. "It's from your father."
"Is Kendall here?" I ask, because I want to read it with him.
"No," she says sadly. "He is out picking up dinner."
"Mom's not coming home tonight?" I ask kinda surprised.
Gwen just shakes her head and hands me the letter. I sigh and take it from her. Carefully I open it.
Dear Amanda,
I'm so sorry for leaving you. I can not put up with your mother anymore. I truly am sorry. I have had some time to myself to think, and I have decided to start my life over. I know that you will be just fine without me. You've made it this far and I haven't been around that much. I hope that all goes well and you achieve all of your life's dreams.
~Dad
