Prologue

"You're so beautiful..." The make-up artist said when he finally done putting make-up to my face. He immediately proceeds to my hair and he will just let my hair straight just like what he said earlier.

"Hindi naman po masyado." I said while staring at myself in front of a mirror. They always say that I'm beautiful but I didn't believe it though. Maybe I'm pretty, yes but not as beautiful as the girls that I see. They are tall unlike me. My height is not really short. Sakto lang kumbaga pero iba pa rin 'yung sa iba.

He chuckled. "Huwag mong maliitin ang sarili mo. You're so pretty kaya even without make-up pa 'yan!" He said with his funny gestures. Bigla naman akong natawa sa kanyang naging aksyon. Pati rin si Mama na nasa likuran namin na nanonood ay nakitawa rin. This make-up artist is one of a friend of my mom. Kapag may mga okasyon ay sa kanya agad kami nagpapa-service.

Nahinto lang aming tawanan nang biglang tumunog ang aking telepono. I immediately get my phone on the table and answered the call.

"Kaia! Are you ready now?" Bungad agad sa akin ni Hazel.

"Yeah. Kita na lang tayo sa event." I heard her giggles in the other line before we ended the call. She's too excited for this party unlike me. I'm also excited but not just like her excitement.

Agad akong nagpaalam kay Mama at sa make-up artist. They even said that I should keep my posture. Napailing-iling na lamang ako sa kanila habang nangingiti.

Kaagad naman akong nakarating sa venue. Marami-rami na rin ang tao ngayon at sakto lang ang aking pagdating. Agad ko ring nadatnan si Hazel na kalalabas lang ng kanilang kotse. She giggled when she saw me at the entrance. She's wearing a black sweetheart evening gown at kita ang kanyang hubog dito. Naka-ponytail din siya ng mataas kaya mas lalong napakita ang kanyang collarbones.

"You're here! Ang ganda mo!" Tuwang-tuwa niyang sambit habang tinitingnan ang aking kabuoan. I'm wearing a silver a-line v-neck floor-length tulle gown. May mga beads sa kabuoan ng gown at ito ang nagpa-highlight dito.

"You too. Kitang-kita ang collarbones mo d'yan." Ngiti kong puna and she giggled again before she held my arm.

"Did you bring your mask?"

Agad kong itinaas sa kanya ang hawak kong silver mask. Our school held a party and the theme is masquerade. Sinuot din namin agad ang aming mask bago pumasok na ng tuluyan sa loob ng hall.

Sinalubong agad kami ng mga iba't-ibang kulay na pailaw sa entrance. The place is quite elegant. They used the color black, purple and silver as a background.

"Ang dami ng tao! Surely, we will have fun later!" Napailing-iling na lamang ako habang nakangiti dahil sa kanyang sinabi. She's really a partygoer.

Pumunta agad kami sa isa sa mga table dahil nagsimula na rin agad ang maikling program. Sinundan din naman ito ng dinner at si Hazel ay tuwang-tuwa sa pagkain dahil masasarap daw ang naging menu. Madami ang um-attend ngayon para sa party na ito. We are all wearing our own masks kaya hindi namin makilala ang isa't-isa. I wonder if Jaiden is already here.
