Arzaya
Friday had always been the most anticipated day of the week—early dismissals, club duties, and no class the next day! And I guess the students look forward to it because they can party all night long and not have to worry about waking up early.
I entered room 32-A and was immediately greeted by the journalism club president, Eric.
"Arzaya! Just in time," he said, grinning. I noticed that there were newbies in the club and Eric was having a talk with them. "Guys, this is Arzaya Austin, our club secretary."
"Hi," I shyly greeted, walking on the corner to stand beside Mikayla.
Mikayla adjusted her big glasses as she read on her files. "So much work to do for the weekend," she murmured to me while writing down on her planner. "Eric asked me to write an article on the Drama club. They're hosting auditions today."
"Yeah, I heard too!" I replied happily. "Can I go with you? I've actually been planning to watch the auditions."
In fact, I wanted to audition but I just can't act for shít.
"Not exactly," Eric answered for me, walking towards Mikayla and I. "Arzaya, I need you to attend the varsity try-outs today at the gym at 3pm."
I looked at him in curiosity. "You mean, the basketball team?"
"Uh-huh."
Fúck me.
"Why? What for?" I almost whined. I had been avoiding Wardell and now I'd be seeing him. Just no.
Eric ripped a page from his pad paper and wrote down. I waited for him to finish and hand it to me.
"There. That's the list of the rookie players who will be on the try-out. Write a short article about it and I need it by tomorrow," he ordered.
My eyes searched through the names.
Ben Simmons
Brandon Ingram
Kris Dunn
Jamal Murray
Marquesse Chrissand the list goes on.
"So, I just need to watch the tryouts?" I asked, looking back at Eric.
"And try to interview the recruited players after the game," he added before pointing towards Ben Simmons' name. "That guy over there, I've been informed that he's a sure pick on the varsity team so keep an eye on him. Capeesh?"
As much as I'd like to decline, responsibilities are responsibilities. "Alright, Eric."
My phone beeped and I realized I received a text. I immediately looked it up.
Wardell: Hey baby ;)
What the actual...
I was about to type in my reply when I received another message.
Wardell: THAT WAS DRAYMOND I FUCKING SWEAR
Me: go to hell
I watched Eric lecture the newbies about the rules and regulations in the organization and I stayed at the room for at least 30 minutes just until Mikayla excused herself to go to the drama club auditions.
