"Bye mom, bye dad!" I called as I headed towards the front door.

"You take care in school," I heard my dad say just as I stepped out of the house.

Today's weather was fairly gloomy. Not exactly the typical California sunny weather, but it didn't seem like it would rain anyway. This what I loved about Oakland; it gives a balanced atmosphere especially if you weren't fond of extreme temperatures.

And I was in such a good mood, because Ben and I had a phone call all night long. He was so adorable and fun to talk to and I can't seem to keep my mind off his charming Aussie accent.

I walked down the street passing houses as I made my way to the bus stop. About two houses from ours, I noticed that Stephen's car was still parked outside their house.

I wasn't even surprised when he burst out of the door, rushing to his car. I could hear the sound of his keys clacking from his grasp.

"Hey," he greeted, his eyes strictly on me as he approached his Benz. I must say, he looked quite nice today, wearing a white sweatshirt and some khaki pants.

"Hi," I merely replied, averting my gaze as I continued to walk away.

"Wait," I heard him say. "Do you...need a ride?"

That made me stop from my tracks. Did I just hear that right? Someone better wake me up because I might be dreaming right now.

I turned to him only to give him a look of confusion. "Are you sure you're Wardell?"

Because he never would've offered me a ride.

Oddly enough, he smiled. He fúcking smiled. What the hell did Sonya give him for breakfast?

"Come on, just get in," he insisted kindly. Something's weird. Yesterday he was such a demon to me.

No, this could be a ploy! Do not let that cute little gap fool you, Zay. He might assassinate me once I'm locked in his car. Or worse, rape!

"No, thanks. I can walk and catch the bus," I immediately say, laughing uncomfortably. My feet almost instantly carried me away from him.

"But—"

"Bye!" I yelled and didn't look back. I never heard him speak anymore so I guess he'd let it go.

Besides, the last time I rode with him to school, girls were staring daggers at me all day. Not to mention we were late in class.

I walked down the street, turning around the corner as a few people passed by. The weather made it seem so cozy to be hugging someone right now.

Just a few minutes later, I could hear footsteps rushing behind me which took my attention.

"What the fùck?!" I cried out, seeing Stephen catch his breath.
