Arzaya"My baby, I'm so happy for you," my mom cooed, squeezing my cheek as we stood by the living room.
I heard Asher scoffing from the couch. "She's lying, mom. Stephen doesn't like her."
"Why not? Your sister is a pretty young woman. I doubt he'll never like her," my mom told him, smiling at me appreciatively.
"Why are you so against Stephen and I, anyway?" I questioned my younger brother. "Little fag."
"Because you're not hot enough to date him! He's my idol, Zay. I want him to date popular girls," he reasoned, glaring at the television screen. He was such a whiny little baby I wanted to scrub his face on a cactus.
"Listen, you little dick fuck, if Stephen officially becomes my boyfriend, I'll tell him to never consider you as my brother," I retorted. "So then, he'll never talk to you ever again."
"But—"
The doorbell rang and I quickly rushed towards the front door to get it. As I opened it, Steph appeared, dressed in a peach hooded shirt and some beige shorts. I must say, peach was definitely his color.
"Hi," he greeted, kissing my cheek. He looked from inside the house to wave at my mom and Asher.
"Hey, Steph!" Asher beamed from the couch.
"Sup, buddy," Stephen replied, smiling at my brother. Asher looks up to him as if he's a saint that it was actually scary.
I grabbed his forearm and led him out of the house as I could feel my mom following us behind. I was creeped out by my own family—it looked like they wanted to date Wardell more than I do. For real.
"Bye mom," I told her as we walked away.
"You take care of her, Stephen," my mom reminded, standing by the front door.
He just gave her a smile. "Yes, ma'am."
We both walked down the pathway and headed towards his car. His hand was guiding my back, letting me walk before him.
"You look extra nice today," he complimented, eyeing my dress. It was a floral strapless dress I saw last month at H&M and I loved the color scheme too much that I had to get it.
To top the boho vibe, I wore a strappy sandals that was up on the length of my knees and some pink reflective sunnies.
"I mean, it's cute that we kinda blend together," I noted, acknowledging his own outfit.
"We always do." He grinned as we reached his car.
Sonya peeked from their front door and smiled at us enthusiastically. "Have fun, sweethearts!"
I chuckled. Our moms act like we were a married couple or something.
"Bye, Mrs. Curry!" I called before getting inside the car.
