"What are you so busy about?" I asked Ben as he joined me in the table, but all he had been doing was write something on a paper. "Is that a love letter or something?"
He didn't look up. "I forgot to do this damn homework."
I chuckled. It was the first time I ever saw Ben do something academically. I knew he hated Algebra. A lot.
"You want me to tutor you after class?" I offered.
He looked at me as if I was a blessing. "Yes, thank you!"
I smiled and grabbed another fry to eat while I looked around and saw Ayesha sitting on one of the farther tables. She was with another girl from my Psych class and they were casually conversing.
Then I looked beside our table and saw Shay, Klay, Dray (they all sound the same, I swear). I just realized that I didn't need to have Stephen to have company. All I need were these people and I could live.
"This sucks," Ben groaned, leaning on my shoulder as he sighed in exasperation.
"If that's hard, wait till you reach Senior year," I stated, keeping his head on my shoulder as I stroked his temple. I swear I treat him so much like a baby.
After a few minutes, D'Angelo and Devin joined us in the table and I don't know why every time I see these two, I get really happy. They were lowkey my sons.
"Momma Zay," D'Angelo greeted as if he'd heard my thoughts.
I grinned. "Hi, babies."
Devin glanced at Ben and he snorted, seeing him rush his homework. "GPA king."
Ben didn't look up but he flipped him off.
Suddenly, a pretty sophomore girl, I think her name was Jessica (?), stopped by our table and turned to Devin.
"Hey, Devin," she greeted. "You should just come over after school. My parents aren't home, anyway."
"You tryna fúck?" D'Angelo bluntly questioned, putting an arm around Devin's shoulder.
The girl looked surprised. "We have a school work to do. We're partners."
"I didn't ask," D'Angelo told her, causing me to snicker.
Devin palmed his face while I suppressed chuckles. I'd never seen D'Angelo be sassy as fúck.
"Look, I'ma try what I can do later," Devin reassured to the poor girl. "I'll text you."
The girl left looking weirded out with D'Angelo and he just rolled his eyes so hard.
"Why you mad, Dlo? You wanna hit it with her, too?" Ben asked mindlessly. Clueless. The guy's fúcking clueless. "She's Oubre's ex, you know."
"You not going to her place tonight," D'Angelo told Devin and it sounded almost an order.
Yet, Devin just made a stank face. "I catch you talking to Niki but I don't say shít."
