January 4th
The news of my wedding's cancellation broke out like a wildfire. I thought the media would stop bothering me but no, i was wrong. The lobby was packed with reporters and so was the basement carpark. I had to use the emergency staircase at the back of the building just to get to my office.
The moment i stepped out from the elevator, i approached one brunette who seemed to be busy doing her work at her cubicle.
"I need your help," i said to her,"You told me once that your sister is good in arranging flowers."
"Yes, i did. Why sir?" She frowned, wondering what my request would be.
I handed her a box and said,"Can you help me arrange these nicely? I know it seems impossible but try, maybe?" I said.
"I'll try, sir," she replied.
"Good. But keep this between you and i. I dont want to give a reason for others to start gossiping," i told her,"The media is on the hunt for me."
She nodded,"I understand."
Jin Hyuk's word left my mind buzzing and i barely get enough sleep for the last two nights. Quite determined, i somehow would want to get her back. What had happened, couldnt be undone but its the present and future that counts.
I let my mind drifted away, lost in thoughts, particular during one conference. There were doubts and uncertainty, that kept bothering. What if she doesnt want to see me? What if, what if and what if.
Around noon, i sneaked out, avoiding the media and even my p.a at all cost. I used one of my subordinate's car just to see Hyo Rin unnoticed.
I bumped into Jin Hyuk at the front door, and he was still looked not very pleased to see me.
"She's in her room, we just got back," he said to me.
"How is she?" I asked.
"According to her, she's okay. But i dont buy any of it," Jin Hyuk said to me,"Go on. You can talk to her."
"Am i allowed to?" I asked.
Jin Hyuk laughed darkly,"I have to control the urge of punching you in the face, Mr. Kim Jong Kook. Lucky for you, i got something to take care of right now and with you here, i wont worry so much leaving her alone."
"Well, lucky me."
"Today, yes. Tomorrow, dont bet on it," his last words before he left, leaving the front door open so that i could come in. A clear warning. Im still not welcomed in his house.
I peered into her room. It was dark. The curtains were drawn and the only source of light was coming from a tiny lamp that was plugged in a socket above her head.
Knocking on the door, i said,"Can i come in?"
Her dark silhouette rose from her bed, and she said,"Sure. But let me draw the curtains first."
"No, its okay. I'll do it," i said quickly, drawing the curtains away from her bedroom windows. Lights shone upon the room, she was shielding her eyes from the sudden brightness.
Pale and weak, at least that was what i thought when i saw her. She offered a seat for me to sit next to her bed.
Gaunt faced, her eyes looked far too big for her face. In just a matter of days, she looked like she had lost a few kilos of her weight.
"Where's Jin Hyuk?" Was her first question.
Hmph.
"He said he got something to take care of," i replied,"He let me in before he left."
"He did?" Hyo Rin asked, looking surprised,"Are you he did? Or the two of you had a brawl first?"
I laughed, for the first time after for so many days,"Yes, Hyo Rin. He did let me. And we did not had a brawl in the hallway. The security most probably will be after us if we did."
"Ah. Im sure he's cursing himself right now in the car for not punching you in the face just now," Hyo Rin said with a smile,"So, what brings you here?"
"You."
Her smile faltered from her sad face,"Im okay."
"Im sorry, Hyo Rin," i said automatically,"Im so sorry."
She looked away, staring out the window. I couldnt help myself but to hug. It felt the same. The warmness of her body, the smell of her fresh laundry, and the softness of her hair that brushed against the back of my hand. But the old Hyo Rin that i used to hug were usually defensive and talkative. Hyo Rin that im hugging now, somewhat, different. Weak and fragile. There was not even a hint of happiness. Just pain and sadness.
She wept in my arms and i was completely lost for words.
"Im sorry," that was the only thing i could manage to say,"How i wish i could take away all of it. Im sorry, Hyo Rin."
She leaned against my chest, still holding onto my arms but she remained quiet. Until, she spoke.
"I had a dream," she said quietly, still staring out the windows,"I thought i was day dreaming. But then, it felt like a dream."
"What did you dream of?" I asked.
"It was a boy. No older than 3, i think. A toddler. Running around the house, and i even saw my parents and my brother," she said,"But there was a man. Whom i couldnt recognised. I didnt see his face. What do you think the dream meant?"
She finally looked at me. Honestly, i had no idea how to interpret dreams but there was one thing i knew, the unborn child of mine that she bore, was a boy.
"How are you?" She finally asked.
I wanted to say that im okay or fine but, those two words were stuck in my throat. I shrugged,"I.."
Hyo Rin touched my face,"Did you miss me?"
"Always."
"Have you ever think me?"
"All the time."
"Was that the reason why you came to my house?"
House?
"Jin Hyuk told me that you were the one who found me on the ground and sent me to the hospital," she said,"But you left."
"Yes i did."
"You were there during critical times but why did you leave?" She asked.
"Because i dont want to hurt you again, Hyo Rin," i replied,"What i did were, unforgivable."
"Jin Hyuk told me that the both of you told the doctor that the two of you are my husbands," she said.
"Unintentionally, yes," i said,"Sort of slipped out."
Holding onto my hand, she said,"Can you stay? At least until i fall asleep. I dont want to be alone."
"Sure," i said to her. I laid down on the bed next to her, and my arm as her pillow, i remained by her side. Watching her shoulder rose up and down as she breathed, planting a kiss behind her ear and whispered,"I love you, Hyo Rin."
"I love you too, Jin Hyuk," she mumbled sleepily.
Boom! It felt almost like that, but nowhere near the same to how i felt when i heard whose name that she uttered in her slumber.
Okay, Mr. Choi Jin Hyuk, im officially going to start a war against you.
