October 15th, Sunday

At first, i thought that i want to stay longer in bed but the sunshine coming through the window looked promising. Should i? I kept asking myself and i looked like an idiot talking to myself when my house keeper was around. She stared at me for the longest time before she eventually leave for groceries shopping. I took my shower, had my breakfast and i sat down in front of the tv. Flipping through each channel but none of it were interesting enough to watch at. Sundays had never been my favourite day. For one reason, my phone which was still in vibrate mode kept vibrating. Acquaintances kept calling and sending text messages asking me to come over to hang out with them.
I ignored each one of them until one call that was inevitable. A call from none other than my good friend, Jung Nam.
"Where are you?" He asked.
"Home," i replied,"Why?"
"I came over to your house a couple of nights ago but you werent there," he said,"Where were you?"
"Oh, i was out with a friend. Stayed over at her place," i said which was a mistake.
"Her?" Jung Nam's voice became twice louder than usual,"Who is she?"
"Just a friend," i said firmly,"Where are you at?"
"Mango Six."
"Im coming over," i told him before i hung up.
Got dressed casually and i was already on my way there. Mango Six was half an hour drive but since it was a good day, i decides to take the bus instead. For the first time, i used a public transportation and which was satisfying.
I sat by the window and the autumn had finally began to show her colours. The leaves on the trees along the busy street had finally turned brownish orange. If i knew taking a bus would actually let me to see more of the city that ive been leaving at, i should have done it long time ago.
The bus seemed to take a much different route which i had never notice before. Shops and stores were packed with customers who did their shopping at this hour of the morning.
It was a beautiful sight, until i saw a familiar looking pixie haircut young woman, just outside a pc store. She was seen rummaging through her bag and thank heavens, the bus stop ahead wasnt that far. I rang the bell and got off the bus.
"Hai," i greeted her and Hyo Rin looked very surprised to see me.
"Ajusshi," her usual greeting, and a smile,"Good morning."
"What are you doing here?" I asked as i followed her walking along the street.
"To grab some breakfast," she replied.
"But?"
"Ive misplaced my phone. I think i must have left it at home," Hyo Rin let out a heavy sigh.
"You're only 26, and yet you're forgetful," i teased her and she laughed heartily at my teasing. And again, unlike any other women, she didnt get moody for being teased early in the morning.
It was when she smiled i realised there were dark circles under her eyes and she looked exhausted. Why?
"You looked terrible. Did you even sleep last night?" I asked her.
"No," she answered.
"Eh?"
She shrugged and what she asked me next reminded me of Jung Nam.
"You're suppose to be elsewhere, am i right?"
Shit. I thought. Jung Nam most probably cursing me under his breath every 5minutes at that moment.
"Actually, yes. Completely forgotten about it," i told her,"You dont mind eating breakfast alone or you want to join me?"
Hyo Rin raised an eyebrow,"Thanks but i dont think coming with is a good idea."
"Why?"
"Some other time, okay?" She smiled sweetly and i couldnt help myself but to smile back.
"Okay. Will i be able to see you tonight?"
My question slipped out from my mouth without myself knowing it. Only last night, i told myself try to not to get too close with her and today, i asked her whether i could see her again tonight. What the hell?
She smiled upon hearing my question and said,"Sure. Why not?"
"Great! Then we can go out for dinner. 6.30?"
She nodded and i left soon after, took another bus to get to Mango Six and i saw Jung Nam wasnt alone. Sitting opposite of him was a woman, around her 30s, dressed elegantly, no doubt, she must had taken out all her clothes in the closet the night before. I immediately knew that Jung Nam had set him up on a blind date. I was dressed a little too casual but nevermind. Since I wasnt told that i would be meeting someone.
Jung Nam greeted me, so did the woman. She was the same height as i am and when my eyes darted down, at her feet, wow, a red stilettoes. The woman introduced herself and Jung Nam left almost immediately. I sat down, occupying Jung Nam's empty seat and she began telling me more about herself but i couldnt even remember a single one of them.
She went on and on about herself and i tried my best to listen to her. But my attention was quickly diverted, a customer that just walked looked strangely familiar. She went over to the counter, made her order and sat down somewhere behind the woman in front of me.
"Hyo Rin!" I greeted her. Both of them startled and the woman doesnt look very pleased with the lack of attention i was giving her. Hyo Rin on the other hand, greeted me cheerfully. When she spotted the woman, she gestured me to go on with what i was doing. I apologized to whats-her-name and she pursued her lips, disapproving with the interruption. I caught Hyo Rin checking her outfit from behind and she was seen shaking her head slightly. I almost burst out laughing and thank heavens, not long after her phone rang and she excused herself.
"A blind date?" Hyo Rin mouthed and i nodded. She gave me a thumbs down when i asked what does she think of the woman. Surprised with her judgement but i took her advice quickly. The woman came back and apologized to me for having to leave early. She gave me her name card before she left.
"Not friendly," she told me as i sat down next to her,"And she thinks highly of herself."
"How did you know?" I asked with great interest.
"Did she asked anything about you? Once?" She asked and when i gave it a thought, it was the mainly the woman who did all the talking and yes, she talked only about herself.
"I overheard her, telling you that she had been to the States, UK, Japan etc," She said again.
"She did?"
"She was talking to you but you didnt listen to her?" She asked in disbelief,"Boy, no wonder she doesnt look pleased."
I laughed,"You were distracting."
Which was true. Hyo Rin was the reason why i was distracted and she doesnt even dressed to the nines compared to the woman earlier on. I kept thinking of her and what we would be doing to night and where to go for dinner.
She laughed at me and said,"Im sorry."
"Its okay. Its not your fault. She doesnt have the spark that i was looking for," I told her honestly.
If i were to like someone, she must have that one particular spark in her that could make me to fall in love with her.
"So, a bagel and some Earl Grey tea for breakfast?" I asked when i saw her choice for breakfast.
"No choice. I almost ran out of money. I need to cash out some more later on. Its hard not to have any jobs," she sighed heavily.
Eh? Nobody gave you a call yet? I wonder whether my P.A did what i told him to do but usually, he got it done almost immediately. Maybe not yet. Its Sunday after all.
"I havent eaten my breakfast yet," i lied smoothly,"Wanna join me?"
"Where?"
"I dont know. Tell me a good spot, we'll go there together," i said.
"Is this your way of telling me that you want to treat me today, Mr. Kim Jong Kook?" She asked, eyebrow raised.
She caught me. Alright. But i shook my head.
"In a few minutes, you'll be hearing my stomach grumbling. Begging for food," i said to her rather cheekily.
We left Mango Six soon after that and that was the best breakfast i ever had in years.
