January 6th, midnight
The rotating restaurant at the tower was extremely cozy and the view was spectacular at night.
Jin Hyuk and I had fun throughout the entire dinner although he looked like he was holding back onto something.
Torn between curiosity and humour, he looked like he wanted to ask me whose name i wrote on the lock earlier in the afternoon.
In the end, he asked me when we had a stroll at the waterfront after the dinner.
I shrugged, pretending not to hear him. Jin Hyuk eyed me suspiciously and one thing i like about him ; he never badgered or insisting on telling him anything and he would always wait until i was ready to tell him.
"It was great dinner, thank you," I said to him upon reaching home.
"Your welcome," Jin Hyuk said with a smile,"By the way, i have a present for you."
"Present?" I wondered,"What is it?"
He smiled brightly, somehow, it wasnt just a normal smile. He said,"You have to wait til tomorrow. Im not giving it to you tonight."
"Why not?" I asked him sweetly.
"Because its a surprise and-"
"Yes?"
"How about coming over to my parents' place? I'll be staying there for the night and i dont want to leave you here all by yourself," he said,"Mom will be delighted if she sees you."
"I think im going to stay here," i said to him apologetically,"Not that i dont want to come over but you have been spending too much time with me for the last days and i feel bad each time your mom calls you asking you when are you going to come over."
"But-"
"Uh, no. Family first," i said to him warningly,"Besides, i'll be fine. Its not that im going to have nightmares tonight."
"Hyo Rin-"
"Now, go. Its already late," i said to him, ushered him towards the door.
He laughed,"I know but you have a few strands of stray hair got caught at the corner of your lips."
"Oh!" I attempted on brushing them off and how on earth i didnt realised it earlier. Jin Hyuk brushed them off my cheeks smoothly and when the tips of his fingers touched my skin, a sudden wave of unexplained emotion swept upon me. I kept my eyes on him as he tugged my hair behind my ear and after that it was blurry. He was leaning over, and i could see the rough outline of his moustache which probably he had shaved off this morning.
Our lips almost touched and i even wondered how his lips would taste like.Until i snapped out of my dream.
Jin Hyuk was standing at the door, frowning at me and we were a few feet apart.
"Are you okay?" He asked me, looking amused at something.
"Yeah," i replied quickly. Eh? What on earth just happened to me?
"Okay. Are you sure you dont want to come over to my parents' place with me tonight?" He asked.
"No. Its okay. Im fine. Perhaps tomorrow night?" I said, giving him a non committal shrugged.
"Okay then. Call me if there's anything. I'll come over as soon as i can," Jin Hyuk said before he left.
The moment he closed the door behind him i fell onto my knees. It was just a daydream. Jeez. I must be out of my mind, imagining myself kissing Jin Hyuk. Well, almost.
I giggled all the way back to my room and even when i stepped into the shower, i couldnt help it to feel like i was such a fool.
But the tips of his fingers that touched my cheeks felt surreal. Like a static and im drawn to it.
I was lost in my own thoughts when the door bell rang.
Without thinking, i called out for Jin Hyuk's name as i assumed that he must had forgotten something.
But it was Kim Jong Kook who rang the door bell and looking quite hurt and taken aback and apparently he had heard me calling out for Jin Hyuk's name.
"Im sorry," i said automatically,"I thought-"
"I know, i saw him. He just left," Kim Jong Kook said quickly,"So, can i come in?"
"Yeah, sure," i said and the sound of his heavy footsteps filled the entire living room.
"So, what brings you here?" I asked.
Strangely, he smiled and said,"Get ready. We're going out."
"Out? Ice skating?" I couldnt help it but to start feeling quite excited even though i was exhausted. Ice skating was fun and Kim Jong Kook made it fun. I could skate the whole night.
"You'll find out soon enough," he said with a smile. His mysterious smile was just gorgeous.
I got dressed and this time, i used a much thicker and appropriate clothing for the cold night.
We left the house and once again, i watched where we were heading. But it seemed like he was driving into the city and i was perplexed at first, wondering what kind of "thing" that he had prepared for tonight.
Once he pulled over, it was a parking lot of a park where i used to go for a walk long time ago.
"Banpo?" I asked as soon as we stepped out from the car,"Why are we here at this hour?"
"We're going to have a picnic, of course," Kim Jong Kook replied brightly and i didnt noticed it earlier, and when i saw him taking out a large picnic basket from the back seat of the car, i giggled almost immediately.
"What?" He asked.
"Picnic? In the middle of the night?" I giggled,"In winter?"
"Why not?" Kim Jong Kook said as he offered his hand and i took it.
We both walked hand in hand as we searched for a perfect place to sit but Kim Jong Kook insisted on sitting in an open space and finally, we sat down among the grass, facing the Han river.
The night view at the waterfront was spectacular as well and i could see the Seoul Tower where Jin Hyuk and i had went to earlier on.
"So, Mr. Kim Jong Kook, i wonder what else you had in mind," i asked and watched him serving some homemade food for the both of us.
He poured a cup full of hot soup and gave it to me and it tasted incredibly delicious.
"This is amazing! Did you made this?" I couldnt help myself but to ask.
"Of course i did," He said,"Im a great cook, you know."
"Right. The last time i had supper with you, you only made omelette," i said to him teasingly.
"That, was last time and this time, its different," Kim Jong Kook said to me,"I spent the entire day planning this picnic out."
"Really? That is so sweet of you," i said to him rather cheesily,"So, what else did you prepare other than this soup?"
The dinner that i had seems ages ago and i was hungry once again. From the soup to the large turkey sandwiches, Kim Jong Kook even cook some beef noddle and it was very delicious indeed.
"Lady, can you please eat a little more slowly," Kim Jong Kook said as i slurrped my noddle.
Wiping off the corner of my mouth with a napkin, he laughed and said,"You surprise me. Every time."
"Surprise you? Its the other way around, i think," I replied,"I never thought that you were going to take the liberty of cooking on your own and go out for a picnic in the middle of the night."
"I just want to make you happy," he shrugged,"Anyway-"
He took out apparently a small book of sticky notes and a pen out from the picnic basket and handed them over to me.
Er?
"What is this for?" I asked.
"Write down whatever you want that you want to forget and once you have write them down, fold them," he instructed,"Get the idea?"
"Okay but what are we going to do with them after that?" I asked, staring at the yellow sticky notes blankly.
"Im not going to read them, dont worry. Im going to write several myself," Kim Jong Kook said quickly.
"And we're going to throw them into the river?" I gasped and Kim Jong Kook laughed.
He shook his head and i was relieved. Not a bad idea for a picnic, i thought to myself.
Silence fell afterwards and perhaps i was too engrossed writing down what i had in mind for the last few weeks, i didnt realised that Kim Jong Kook was no longer next to me.
His three written notes were neatly folded but he was nowhere to be seen. I almost called out for his name until i saw him.
My jaw dropped when i saw hundreds of helium filled balloons which he had brought together with him. They were tied on a round piece of wood which Kim Jong Kook was holding.
"Wow, you've wrote down plenty of things that you want to forget," He said to me, staring at quite a number of my folded notes in my lap,"Luckily i've prepared some extra balloons."
"Extra?" I giggled, awestruck,"How many balloons did you prepare?"
"About 120, i think," He replied sheepishly and settled down next to me,"Untie one."
"What?"
"Untie one balloon, and tie your note at it. And let it go," he said to me,"Once you let go, there will be no absolute reason for you to start thinking about what you've done in the past which you regretted of doing."
"I just want you to be happy once again," Kim Jong Kook added and i took a particularly a pink coloured balloon and tied one of my written note at its string and without thinking twice, i let it go. Watched it float into the night sky and finally out of sight.
"See? Its easy," Kim Jong Kook said to me.
"Yeah, it does makes me feel much better," i said to him,"Thank you."
"Not just yet, you still got plenty," he said.
One by one, i let go of the balloons into the night sky. I felt way much better and i was incredibly amazed by Kim Jong Kook's wonderful idea.
Finally, only three balloons left and seemed like there were no more of mine left. Only his.
"Why you only wrote three?" I asked.
Kim Jong Kook was sitting facing me,"Yeah. I dont have much. You want to read them?"
"Er.."
"Its okay. I dont mind," he said to me.
I began unfolding them one by one.1 : Take away all Hyo Rin's sadness and pain but leave only happiness behind.
2. Forget who Kim Hyo Rin is. So that i could fall in love with her once more.
I didnt know what happened but my eyes were blurry, shrouded by tears. I kept my gaze down and the last note was ;
3. Stop loving Kim Hyo Rin.
I looked up and him, was surprised to see his last note, and so i asked why.
His reply was,"So that i can never stop loving you for the rest of my life."
