[Day 23, November 15th]
JasmineMeeting the Twin Kings 2/2
I looked up at the identical Twin Kings as they stood on top of the intricately decorated stairs while they welcomed the women who came to their home.
I don't know why, but I felt something deep in my soul clench at the word, home. It wasn't happiness, of that I was sure for there was no way I would be happy about hearing that word, I didn't allow myself to think on what the feeling could be. Either way, I had to speak with the Kings and see if I would be able to get a boat. I wanted to get to London as quickly as possible, then maybe I could find out how my sister and brother were doing. I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the King with the short twists speak.King Larry: "I want you all to enter through the double doors to your left, inside is a dressing room of sorts. Whatever is in there, you are welcome to use. I want you all to prepare yourselves for dinner, where you will be questioned. Who we chose to be our chosen few will be decided by how you answer these questions. But you will not know the answer until tomorrow morning. So ladies, if you will.", His tone was also completely drenched in French but he had a sort of childish lilt to it. Like he was playing a game only he knew about but then I snickered to myself a little, reminding myself that this is all is was to them anyway, a game.
The women did as they were told and I had tried to stay back to see if I could get the Kings attention but the stampede of eager women caused me to be pushed along with them once again. As we all stepped through the doors, I instantly became awestruck. The dressing room was full of the most beautiful gowns I could ever think off. Everywhere I looked was a case of jewelry, shoes and clothes. It was every leech woman's dream.
Except for a woman like me, I hated this sort of setting. I watched in disgust as all the other girls were damn near stomping over each other to get to the most expensive looking items. I always hated shopping and this felt like Black Friday.
I walked over to a corner that was unoccupied and I could see why. The plain clothing was settled here. Simple, all drab color type clothing with simple jewelry that looked like they came from the neighborhood Walmart. I sat on a ottoman that was in front of a gorgeous two way mirror and watched the chaos. The women were all trying on different outfits, tossing what they didn't like on the floor like rags. I cringed at the behavior. What about the people who had to clean up this mess?
I entertained the idea that maybe I would be spotted doing nothing and be escorted out. But I remembered that I had to speak with the Kings, so I had no choice but to play along. I refused to stoop to the levels of the other women, who were wearing revealing dresses and necklaces that looked way to heavy for their necks. I sighed and got up, looking through simple clothing no one seemed interested in. I felt bad about the neglect of the clothes. I came from a poor family, having new clothes was a luxury we could hardly afford.
I had to drop out of school at 16 just to get a job to insure we had a roof over our heads. I had only passed down dresses from friends and I hated dresses. But from what I could see, dresses and skirts were the only things in this room.
Jasmine: "ugh, I guess I have no choice", I mumbled to myself and got up to search for clothes that fit my personality. I found the most simple black dress I could find, with long sleeves and a scrunched up bottom. I put it on, and it stretched to fit my curves which I hated. When I was younger, I was always made fun of by the other girls because I matured early. I filed the memories back in the recesses of my mind, and went to put on a simple pair of black slippers. I looked up and something caught my eye. I got up and walked to the the jewelry stand where a simple pair of music note earrings rested. My heart was won easily. I put them on and a simple long bar necklace.
