( King Laurent )
( Day 37-38 midnight )I rolled my eyes for what felt like the tenth time. Candice was talking a mile a minute about her wants and I was bored of it. All day, I been suffering in her presence and wished I was anywhere but with her. We walked around town as she was intent on showing off that she was with the King. I could see the sneers from the other women, obviously annoyed with Candice's bragging.
King Laurent: "That's enough Candice. They all clearly see me with you, no need to make your spotlight any brighter. It's starting to hurt my eyes." Her good mood deflated at my irritated and bored tone. I saw the slight angry expression for a split second before she replaced it with a smile.
Candice: "Of course Lau, I'm sorry. I guess I was a little to excited. After all, it's been a while since we went out together." I sighed and didn't respond. When she realized I wasn't going to answer, she took hold of my hand to pull me with her. I snatched my hand back and spoke with a stern tone.
King Laurent: "You should know better Candice. Never in public. Respect your King." Her face dropped and I tried not to let my guilt take over. I wouldn't allow her to have her way just because she would pout. I didn't like to be touched intimately in public, it led to rumors and gossip and I did not want to deal with that right now.
Candice: "I thought that since it was confirmed about Jessica that it would be okay Lau?" Hearing my deceased wife name sent a shard of pain to my heart and I inhaled a painful breath.
King Laurent: "No, it wasn't okay then and it's not okay now Candice. Also Candice, it would do you good to remember that it's Queen Jessica no matter if she's gone or not and stop calling my name without my title. If you cannot follow the rules I set, we can go back to the castle right now." Everything in her aura screamed sad but I wasn't having it. There was a certain way to behave in public and that was not it, especially with all the wide opened eyes I could see.
Candice: "I'm sorry King Laurent, I forgot my place. Or did you forget the fact that I'm your woman and we were just fucking before we came out here?!" I looked at the livid woman and felt my own anger rise at her blatant disrespect. The gasps and whispered mumblings pissed me off. She had officially lost her damn mind.
King Laurent: "No I didn't forget and it seems that you did forget your place. Very well, you can find your way to the hotel alone Candice. I have other affairs to handle. You would do well to remember that you are not Queen and the way you're acting, I'm not seeing it in your future." I left her there, with her mouth gaped open and an apology ready on her lips. I couldn't give two fucks about her apology. I did not take disrespect well.
I walked around the town, my personal guards spread out but never far away. I spent time with the kids, playing a game of soccer and helped a mother out with her heavy baskets.
"Ah thank you so much King Laurent. I'm glad to see you are as kind as your wife. Helping me out just as she did a little while back."
That confused me, I wasn't to used to compliments about Jessica like that. And I know she never helped out the townsfolk, hell she hardly left the castle.King Laurent: "I think you're misunderstanding something ma'am, Queen Jessica is deceased and there's no way she could've helped you." The older woman smiled and laughed, the sound slightly raspy.
"no, I may be in my years a bit but I was not speaking about Queen Jessica son, I was speaking of the pretty curly haired one. Her and her dark chocolate friend were so kind to help me out just as you did. I'm glad to see such lovely people running the kingdom." She called after her children who all said yes ma'am and ran into the house. She gave me a small smile and said goodnight, joining her children inside.
