King Laurent
( Day 33 )

God, it felt good to be back in Parisih. While it was important to keep relations with other lands on the good side, it was extremely tiring. I hated the parties and politics. I looked to my side at my twin, he looked just as happy as me.
King Laurent: "Good to be home eh bro?" Larry smiled at my question.

King Larry: "Of course. I hate dealing with Lord and Lady Malook. I can't stand being around them to long. Especially since Lady Malook has been trying for that threesome for years." A laugh erupted from me as I watched Larry shudder with disgust.

King Laurent: "Well, at least now we can relax and see the girls huh? I can't wait until Sophie sees the new book I found for her. I feel bad for not giving her any time." I thought back on the time I brought Sophia back. She had been 8 at the time. Her mother had been killed while protecting her from raiders. Larry and I had only been Kings for a year at that time and the people had been rebellious, refusing to follow such young men that they didn't deem fit to be the Kings.

After I heard of the attack on the secluded farm, I went to check to see if I could provide any help. I was naive at the time and didn't think anyone would have been harmed. I realized how wrong I was when I got there. The once bustling farm was now just piles of ashes. Cattle and crops lay dead and the ranch hands were scattered about with arrows in their hearts. I gagged on the stench of smoke and copper. I had been searching for life anywhere for 30 minutes when I heard crying. I followed the sound to a little soot ridden mess of golden curls. Sophia had been holding on to her mother, begging for her to wake up. When she heard me, she just stared at me. Like she was ready to die too. I quietly walked to her and bent down to her level. She clutched at her mother harder.

King Laurent: "Hello petite, my name is Laurent. I'm not going to hurt you. But I need to get you away from here. All this smoke and ash isn't good for you. Please, let me take you to the castle." Her eyes widened and she threw herself on her mother and screamed no at me.

Sophia: "I won't leave my mommy! Not like this !" Her little sobs broke my heart.

King Laurent: "Okay, then how about I wait here with you then until my brother comes. Then I will make sure I don't leave your mom here." She gave a small nod of her head and I sat next to the child. After a while, Larry came with a few guards whom were there to assist in the burial of the deceased. Larry found me and together we convinced the child to come with us, only if we brought her mother too. On the way, the child told us her name was Sophia and that mommy died cause the bad man grabbed Sophia and her mother offered herself instead.

When we got to the castle, Larry and I ourselves dug a grave for her mother in the Royal cemetery. We took Sophia in but she stopped speaking. Whenever anyone would speak to her, she would write her answers down and just went about her way. She wasn't mute by force but by choice. I felt a sadness at the memory. I always hoped that Sophia would speak again but over time, she just remained silent. Nonetheless, I loved her like my own.

As we passed through town, I stopped at a few places to speak with some of the townsfolk. I enjoyed this part of being King. Although I was strict and seemed distant, I adored the people of this land. I stayed in town to play soccer with some of the children while Larry said he had to go see Liloh.

King Laurent: "Aye, make sure you bring her to dinner tonight. I miss my niece. Her mother, eh not so much." Larry walked away laughing, just giving me a simple okay. After playing for a good hour, I left to go to the castle promising the kids I would return to play soon. I walked through the gates of the castle, my mind wandering. The first face I saw when I went through the doors was Candice.

Candice: "Oh, welcome back King Laurent. I'm so glad you're back. It's been lonely here." She smiled at me and I took in her appearance. She was wearing a little black strapless dress with Prada heels. Her braids were down and she was wearing more makeup than usual I noticed.

King Laurent: "Thank you for the welcome but why did you plaster on so much makeup Candice? It looks like a face mask." I wrinkled my nose at her, a habit of mines when I didn't like something. She fidgeted and tears welled up in her eyes. When the tears fell, I found myself holding her.

King Laurent: "Candice what's wrong? What happened?" She begin to cry harder and I could barely her what she said.

Candice: "Oh Laurent it was terrible! Jasmine went crazy while you were gone. She attacked me and Melissa for no reason! We had only been worried about her and Kyanna cause they left the castle without telling anyone and they were gone for hours. I asked her where they had been out of concern and she just attacked us. It was horrible Laurent." My eyes opened in shock. I used the handkerchief I had in the front pocket of my blazer and wiped the makeup off Candice face. When the purple bruise appeared, I felt the anger rise in me.

King Laurent: "Where is she?! I will not condone violence on my chosen and leaving the castle without permission? It's time I remind Miss Jasmine just exactly where she stands!" Candice said she was in the doctors room and a small thought in my head told me that was suspicious. Why was she in the doctors when Candice and Melissa were the ones attacked? I tossed that thought to the wind, my anger rising. I stormed through the castle, rage written all over my face. How dare she?! I had been nothing but kind to her but I could not overlook this behavior. I spotted Kyanna out the corner of my eye but she ran off, fear all in her features.

I made it to the doctors room and bust the door open. Dr.Leona jumped at the sound, holding her hand to her heart. Dr.Leona: "King Laurent , you frightened me . Hahaha I thought you were...."

King Laurent: "Get out." I cut Dr.Leona off mid sentence and she seemed so confused.

Dr.Leona: "But King Laurent, I must..." I turned to look Dr. Leona in the face.

King Laurent. I said get out. Don't make me repeat myself." She got up, clearing her throat and bowed then left.

Jasmine

The nightmare was endless. Crystal kept showing me the scene in the ravine and the fire in my body burned me to the core. Not gone, not gone, not gone played like a song on repeat in my mind. I pulled at my hair, tears streaming down my face in bulk. I couldn't remember. The dream was vivid yet I couldn't remember.

Jasmine: "I don't know!" I screamed at Crystal, hoping she'd just leave. The ethereal spirit just continued on in a loop. Just as I was crawling again the fire to hot for my veins, I felt something that felt like a earthquake. The ground shook and a fissure appeared in the ground. What the fuck?! I tried to get up but my feet refused to move. I cried out then felt my body vibrate from the earthquakes force. The fissure opened up underneath me and I fell into the nothingness. I jerked out the nightmare, screaming no. I tried to fight whatever had a hold on me and continued screaming. Until I heard a deep French laced tone say my name.

I stopped suddenly and looked into the chocolate pools of King Laurent's eyes. I realized the earthquake had been him shaking me out of my sleep. He looked livid. Was something wrong? He had a sneer on his face and I went slightly numb at his words.

King Laurent: "I'm so very glad you finally joined me in the world of the awake Miss Jasmine. Now that you have, do you mind telling me why exactly Candice's face is the color of a bruised eggplant? And why you figured it was okay to leave the castle?!" I stayed quiet.

( End Chapter )
