A young guppy floated on the sidelines as he watched the other guppies play. The game was tag, it was something that one of them saw the human children playing on the seashore one day, and of course the sad, lonely guppy was left out of all the fun once again. He always knew he was different, this being that the other children had tails while he had tentacles, but every time he tried to talk to any of the other children, they would merely laugh in his face and swim away.

They called him the witch's son, which was true, but he didn't like the way that the children said it. It was full of hate and malice. Everywhere he went, people would talk about him behind his back, not only because he had tentacles, but also because his hair was as white as a newborn pearl and his eyes were so gray that it always looked like he held a storm in their depths.

Hatred for the mer-people began to grow in his heart and his mind began to cloud with darkness with each passing day that not one creature showed him a small pinch of kindness. Well that was until he met you.

You were six years of age and you were so full of wonder and happiness, it was the coming of age when you began to take an interest in the human world. You would go to the most dangerous parts of the ocean to find weird and unusual things that you've never seen before. He would follow you in secret because he felt that there was something different about you, something that made you different from the others and on the day you turned sixteen, he finally realized what that something was.

You were swimming while your friend, Bubbles, chased you. The two of you were playing tag, childish yes, but then again the two of you believed that acting childish every now and then can help a person keep in touch with their childhood. That's exactly why every now and then you would turn around long enough so that you could intimidate her by sticking your tongue out at her in a playful manner. That only gave her motive to try to catch you no matter what it took.

You meet Bubbles at a young age, roughly around eight-years-old, and at first you were frightened of her. Bubbles was born deaf and she could only communicate using sign language, but of course people thought she was a weirdo for using her hands to talk. And you realized her imperfection on the day you bumped into each other , quiet literally.

You were reading a book while swimming again, and it just so happens that she was doing the same thing, so you two didn't pay attention where you were going and you bumped into each other, causing the both of you to fall flat on your tail fins. You didn't know what happened, but when you looked up and saw a young mermaid with rays of sunshine for hair and big purple eyes that shined like jewels. It was in that exact moment, as you both starred at each other, that you realized she was the new girl that you've heard every one talk about, but all you did was smile at her before you began to talk to her in her language.

" Hi." You watch her closely as she read your lips and watched your fingers.

Her eyes went wide with astonishment when she realized she had finally found someone who would be able to understand her.

"My name is (y/n), what's yours?" She smiled at you and soon began to open up to you.

"My name is Bubbles. It's nice to meet you." She signed slowly and precisely.

She seemed nervous and a little skeptical about you, but it was probably because she had never met another person who was able to do what she does before now.

"How old are you?" You asked her.

"I'm fourteen, but ill be fifteen in a couple of days." She replied.

You smiled at her shyness and thought it was adorable. You knew it was the start of a beautiful friendship that would last forever. But as Bubbles began to tell you about her life, you found out some disturbing things about her. Like the fact that once her mother found out about her disability, she gave Bubbles away to an orphanage for unwanted guppies. Then her mother's sister found out about the situation and took Bubbles in as her own. When she was eight she found out that her mother had given her up from her Aunt when she read her lips while she was conversing with her husband. She never imagined that her mother never wanted her, she just assumed she had died of a horrible accident, well that's what her Aunt and Uncle told her in the first place.
