A memory, one as clear as day, crept its way into your dreams last night. You were sitting in a field of lilies, wearing but a t-shirt and shorts. You were only eight and yet you still saw the world as a mysterious place that held secrets just waiting for you to find out the meaning behind them.
This was a time when you didn't have a care in the world and your brother wasn't the monster that kept you awake at night.
This memory was not only of you, but also of your childhood friend that you used to play with when you were younger. He was two inches taller than you and his golden locks stopped at a curl behind his ears. His blue eyes would show you signs of happiness and compassion, and yet, he seemed sad to you for some reason.
You didn't quite know what it ment, but you chose to ignore it as he would begin to tell you stories that would captivate you every single time.
"What story shall I tell today little (y/n)?" His voice was too high pitched for you to here his accent, but you knew it was there.
"How about the story about the prince who learns to love?" You asked him with a cheeky smile on your face.
For some reason your smile always made him blush.
"A-alright." He clears his throat and begins to tell you the story.
You would always crawl up next to him and fall asleep on the soft grass. What would seem to wake you up was when you felt someone run their fingers through your hair. But when you opened your eyes the boy was no longer an eight-year-old, but a sixteen-year-old.
"Hello little (y/n), did you sleep well?" He asked you in a fare british accent.
You gave him a lazy smile and nodded your head. His smile was genuine because it had reached his eyes. He bent down to kiss your forehead, that little caress of your skin was a sign of how much this young man loved you. But something deep inside your heart gave you the feeling that these sweet moments wouldn't last forever.
Your eyes slowly closed once again, but this time when you opened them you were in your living room, laying on the floor. Bleeding out while your brother was sitting on the couch, watching you while smiling.
In an instant you woke up in a cold sweat. The scares on your wrists had began to sting the moment you woke up. Nothing could've been worse than seeing that horrible nightmare once again.
You didn't know that you were crying until you felt the little droplets fall onto your hands.
"(Y/n)? Are you okay?" You looked up to see Alex standing next to the open door that lead into the room you now occupie.
You quickly wiped away your tears before he could see them.
"I'm fine." You tried to say with a shaky voice.
He walks over to your bed and sits on the edge of it. He looks at you intently, it was almost as if he was searching for something in your eyes.
"You are a terrible liar, just like when we were younger." His smile didn't quite meet his eyes, but you knew that you had seen that smile before.
It was the some smile that boy held before he kissed your forehead in your dream.
"A-Alexander?" He blushed a deep crimson when you called him that.
"I told you to never call me that." He said in rough tone.
"You also told me that you would always be there for me, guess you didn't mean it huh?" You said, hurt radiating from your voice.
His blue eyes seemed to grow darker when he saw the tears glistening in your eyes.
"I didn't have a choice." He said sternly.
"You didn't have a choice?" You said almost heartless.
He looked at you with wide eyes.
"(Y/n)..." You interrupted him before he could finish.
"I didn't have a choice either. I didn't have a choice when my brother come home drunk off of his ass and blamed me for all his mistakes. I didn't have a choice when he threw me into the coffee table and caused me to have severe damage to my spin. I also didn't have a choice when he cut my wrists and told that the reason he was doing it was because he was ment to be an only child. So you know what, every thing you said and promised me doesn't matter any more because the entire time I thought that I was dying, I couldn't help but wonder where you were and why you didn't come rescue me. So you did have a choice, you just didn't care to make the right one." All your frustration that has been built up inside of you seem to have exploded in your moment of accusations and torment.
The tears that started to flow down your face was now a waterfall that wasn't going to stop anytime soon. But during the entire time that the truth of how much your life had been downright hell for the past five years had finally been put out there onto the table, he just starred at you with wide eyes and a mouth that was slightly hung open.
You couldn't images the thoughts going on in his brain at that moment. For one thing he felt angry. Angry because it was your brother who had told him to leave or he would hurt you. Upset with himself that he would believe his story. Frustrated with his stupidity for leaving you by yourself. And overall guilty for not telling you he was leaving you in the first place.
"(Y/n) I'm sorry." He said as he tried to reach out a hand towards you.
You backed away from his touch, not wanting anything to do with him. You looked at the hurt look on his face, it was almost enough for you to think twice about your actions towards him.
"I promise you that I will never leave you again (y/n), but since you haven't forgiven me yet, I'll keep my distance. Just know that I'll be watching you to make sure that nothing like that ever happens to you again." He walks towards the door to take his leave.
"W-wait!" You call out to him.
He stops in his tracks but doesn't turn to face you.
"Did you ever love me?" You asked him with a shaky voice.
He looked over his shoulder and gave you a smile that made you blush.
"Guess you'll have to find out won't you little (y/n)?" He gave you a wink then walked out of your room and down the dark hallway.
During your solitude of silence you couldn't help but wonder what you had just gotten yourself into.
