You stare in the mirror and sigh as the young chamber maids helped you with your robes. It was the night of the Cathedral ball where all were welcome, (except of course for the Gypsies) to attend the grand celebration of the eighteenth birthday of Minister Frollo's child.

You didn't want a party to begin with, but after the Archdeacon was explained as to who you were and welcomed you with open arms, he insisted on celebrating because the eighteenth year of a child of the church symbolizes their birthright.

Meaning, a claim to the title of the next Archdeacon.

You did not want this to be your future, but after you agreed to go with your father to save Emilian, you really didn't have much of a choice. Your fate was sealed the moment you betrayed your new friends. It being nearly two weeks since your darkest secret was revealed with one last glimpse at the love of your life, it's pretty clear to you now that no-one was coming to save you. That he wasn't coming to save you.

And why would he? After all, you were the child of a monster.

A monster who destroyed their home, killed your family, and even ruined your one chance at love. It isn't easy and it would never be, but if it meant that Emilian and your friends would be safe, then you would endure the torture until your last breath left your body. Because only in death would you be free of this accursed life you were now given and that very well was your own fault to begin with.

Your fists clenched your robes as you avoided your reflection's gaze, disguised with yourself for being so weak and not having the courage to fight back two weeks ago. You could feel Margo and Daina's eyes on you as they fix a few of the ruffles. They knew all too well the heartache you have been feeling these last couple of days.

You had poured your heart out to them, explaining to them what all had happened and how you were brought here all while never seeming to be able to stop crying. They had even cried with you at one point during your story and had said that they would try to help you get through this. For the most part, they did, but they could not help you shake away the darkness that clouded your mind after every visit with your father.

It was frightening and it gave you anxiety, which lead to you having panic attacks. At one point it got so severe that you had passed out. The doctors didn't know what to make of it, neither did your father or the Archdeacon. Only Margo, Daina, and you knew the truth behind them and you planned to keep it that way.

You looked up at the mirror once more when you heard the door to your room opening. A woman in a blue dress with lace trim and a clean white apron walks in with her hands clasped together. It was Noel, she was the leader of the chamber maids.

"The carriage will be here shortly, ma'am/sire" Noel states, noticing that you were looking at her through the mirror.

"Will I be riding with Fro- I mean father?" You ask her, holding onto the tender hope that she would say no.

"Master Frollo is already there ma'am/sire" Noel says with a friendly smile.

You sigh, feeling some of the stress for this night leave your body. You could pretend to be nice and friendly to him for a bit, but not for a whole carriage ride, the results would be disastrous.

"Alright, I am almost ready Noel, I just have to pick out a mask" you say as you look over at the table near the window that looked out over the city and the cool September night.

Three masks were sitting on the table, each one a different design, but had the same color scheme to match your robes.

"Yes ma'am/ sire, but your Aunt and your sister are here to see you before you depart" She says with a bow of her head.
