Chapter 2: Dance Time

My legs felt like they were going to give out as I signed the paper backstage saying I was present. I could hear the quiet chatter of all the backstage crew making last minute decisions.

"Miss (L/n)? Are you ready for your performance?" Asked the director. He looked part wolf. His hair was black but had some silver hairs here and there. Then there was a tail whipping around behind him.

I nodded, "Yeah. I'm ready."

"Good. You are the second performance of the night. I am sure you will be great out there." He gave me a thumbs up and then walked past me to look at the sign in paper.

I looked down at my clothes. A black torso cover, light pink tights, and pink ballet shows. My hair was in a tight bun (for purposes of plan, you will have longer hair in this story.. just in case you have short hair) with a few strands hanging in front of my face. I pushed them behind my ear as someone with a microphone began to speak.

"Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the Snowdin Dance Recital. We are happy to have your children out on this stage, ready to make a difference to this world with this beautiful art we call dancing."

I listened to his small speech about dancing and blah blah blah. I couldn't help but want to go already. Mostly to get it over with because my stomach was in tight knots as we got closer and closer to my performance. This was going to be one of my best performances by far; it had to be.

"Now, without further ado. Please welcome our first dancer, Miss Alphys."

Alphys smiled at me, nervously, as she walked past me and onto the stage. Alphys was dancing to Midsummer Night Dream. One of my favorite songs.

The piano began at pianissimo. Quiet. Alphys nervously began dancing. I was sidetracked by the music, flowing around me and making me want to do my own dance. So beautiful.

I began counting in my head for her dance.

Suddenly I heard a crack from on the stage. I looked to Alphys who was still dancing, but wasn't moving her right foot.

No. Alphys. You were doing so well..

Alphys had twisted her ankle. She kept going, but she was going to lose points for not moving both her feet most of the time. The knots in my stomach became even tighter than before. What if I twisted my ankle in the middle of the performance? I'd never done that before.

The music stopped and Alphys bowed to the audience as the clapped. I could see the judges in the front row, writing away on their clipboards. Alphys walked past me, slightly frowning, but I patted her back and smiled, "You did a good job. I'm proud of you."

She gave me a slight grin as she walked past me, leaving me in nearly a sweat. I couldn't sweat. I couldn't let anything get in the way of this performance. Who knows what I was up against. That's why I had to give it my all.

"Ladies and gentlemen. Please welcome (Y/n) (L/n)."

I gave out a strangled sigh and looked back to Alphys. She smiled, giving me a thumbs up and mouthed, "Good luck."

I smiled and turned back towards the stage. I walked out to the middle of the stage as the announcer said, "This is Miss (Y/n) doing the world famous Swan Lake."

The crowd applauded as I got myself ready. I positioned my feet and hands. My breathing was slightly ragged, but it began to calm down as I took deep breathes.

You've got this. Iris for the win.

I look to the pianist and make eye contact, telling her I was ready. Then.. the first note played. I stood on my toes and began my dance. Once I started, everything went smoothly. Every move I made went along with the one before and after it. The audience was a like a black screen in a movie theater. The movie hadn't started yet. For me, it was only the beginning.

A great way to start it all out.

I did even the most difficult moves and spins. It made me happy and it slowly began to appear in my dance making it that much better.

Then, the last note was played and my hands went down to my side as I bowed.

The audience cheered and applauded. I looked out at the dark crowd and smiled. The judges continued to look expressionless as always, but I didn't care. I was overjoyed as I walked off stage.

"You did great!" Alphys smiled and hugged me tighly. I smiled and hugged her back.

Results were posted at the front desk.

I ran joyfully out to the lobby. There was already a small crowd in front of it, but I squeezed through the people.

"Pardon me. Excuse me. Don't mind me.. Just.. seeing what place I got.." I said slightly quietly as I made it to the front.

First Place: (Y/n) (L/n)

Happiness overflowed me. I was going to the district competition in a few weeks!

I ran out of the crowd in excitement when I stumbled into Frisk. She looked at me and smiled, "Iris!! You were wonderful!"

I smiled back, "I got first place!!"

The two of us jumped up and down in happiness. This was the best news I had gotten since before my parents died. After hugging for a minute, Frisk broke away and stepped back. A girl who looked very similar to her stood next to her.

"This is Chara. My sister."

I smiled and held my hand out to her, but she just stared at me, with a terrifyingly blank stare. Something about her already seemed.. off. She looked possessed.

That's when I remembered the boyfriend. I looked to Frisk and chuckled lightly, "So.. where's her boyfriend you told me about?"

She looked behind her and smiled, "There he is."

She pointed to someone that was a little further in the distance, but as he got closer...

No way.

"Sans?!"
