Two weeks ago.

The cold wind howled, causing the branches of trees to shake aggressively. It was dark outside and only the lamp posts on the sidewalks were there for me. I sat down on a nearby bench and watched as the night sky grew darker and darker.

"Areum?" A familiar voice searched for me. I knew who the voice belonged to. It was Taehyung.

I shot my head around and saw him. His tall dark figure waiting for me, his eyes looked worried and his face grew silent as he opened both his arms which called out to me. He's the one I needed the most right now. I stared at him but I couldn't hold it in anymore, the tears burst out as I ran into his embrace.

"It's ok now, I've got you, stop crying." He whispered into my ear, and kissed the top of my forehead.

I buried my face further into his chest and his arms tightened around me. I could feel the hot tears, racing down my cheeks, leaving a burning trail. The warmth of his body made me zone out and I thought back to what had happened today morning.

*Flashback*

"Eomma?" My lips quivered from the sight of my mother's state.

"Everything is fine." She calmly said, wiping away her tears and smiling at me like nothing had ever happened. She held me tight, but I could still sense the flow from her eyes.

"He'll be back again right?" I said hopefully looking at her face which she tried to hide.

"No." She sighed, closing her eyes to stop tears from flooding.

"But I know he'll be back. Appa loves us." I cried. I longed for her to say that one word. I wanted her to say yes.

"Areum, people make promises all the time, but sometimes they cannot be kept. This makes other people sad. Please promise me that you'll keep all your promises no matter how hard they are." She looked at me willingly as she held my face.

"I promise Eomma" I looked up at her again, a small smile was on her face. It was faint but it was still there. If I kept my promises and it made my mother happy then that's what I would do. It was my duty to make her happy again, just like before father left.

*End of flashback*

How could my father have done such a thing? Why didn't he say anything? I mean they seemed to argue more now and then. But he didn't have to leave. I wanted to forget him now. He made my blood boil, he crushed my mother, and I wanted nothing to do with him.

But no matter how hard I tried the same image popped up into my head.

My mother. She was hurt. She was broken.

I could still see her, the swollen eyes and pale skin with that thin piece of paper in her hand that trembled. That stupid note had ruined everything.

Returning to my senses, I looked back at him. "Thanks Taehyung."

He smiled at me which made me smile back. This is why I only trust him. He's always been there for me since we were little. All guys may seem like horrible beings who don't care about anyone else apart from themselves, but Taehyung is different. He's not like them at all. Another tear ran down my face. He brushed his thumb across my cheek.

"Are you done now?" He questioned. Aish, this kid. He may be my best friend but sometimes he really never understands things. I giggled at his silliness.

"Yes your highness." I bowed teasing him for being so impatient.

He laughed. "Come on then, let's go take you home."

We walked side by side and joked around as he tickled me and dodged my playful punches towards him. Following the unwinding path, we went home. The bitter weather wasn't so bad anymore. And the thought of my father had disappeared for now. Everything was fine, just like mother had said. My best friend was here with me and that's all I needed.

Hope you guys like it so far. This is my first fanfic so I'm sorry if it is not as good as expected. I'm also still in high school so I apologise for any spelling or grammar mistakes. If you like the story so far then I'd appreciate it if you leave comments for me. Thanks for reading.
