It was Saturday night, and almost time till Taehyung came to pick me up for the Father and Daughter dance, or should I say 'Daughter and stubborn-pushy-friend-who-doesn't-listen-to-anything-you-say Dance'. Mother was helping me get ready. Gently pushing me to the mirror she began to tear up.
"My little girl is growing all up" She said, admiring my reflection more than I was.
"Eomma, you're overreacting, it's just a dance and I'm only going with Taehyung." I calmed her down, trying to remove the adoring gaze in her eyes.
I had to admit, I didn't look bad. She had bought me a cute, baby blue dress, it had long sleeves and was simple just the way I like it. But the fact that it only reached above my knees made me want to punch myself in the face. It was too late now to change, and my mother had already put so much effort into choosing it for me.
Perfect curls sat in their place on my shoulders, and my overgrown bangs were out of the way, laying neatly at each side of my face. When it came to make up it wasn't much, and that's how I liked it.
I skipped down the stairs, it was 7:45. For the first time in my life I was actually on time for something important. Not that it was important to me. I didn't even want to go. But Taehyung was very headstrong and it was almost impossible to get your own way, when he wants something.
"Hold on Areum, I have something for you." My mother called, she pulled out a silver charm bracelet from behind here.
Tying the hook and end together, she said, "Your father was supposed to give this to you for today, but I still want you to wear it. Promise me you'll never take it off."
I hated when she made me promise things like this. I looked at the charms, they were beautiful each one different from the other. However, a specific charm had caught my eye. It was a man and his child together. I tugged at it and finally snapped it of.
"Ok, now I promise." I said, tossing the charm into the trash can. I refused to be his child, or attached to him in anyway. She didn't say a word, instead she gave me a weak smile.
I bent down on my knees and searched for shoes to wear. My eye wandered to my blue sneakers that matched my dress perfectly.
"Don't even think about it." My mother said, replacing them with a box. I opened up the box, and at the sight of what was inside I shot a glance at her. Has she met me? I don't wear heels. I was never fond of them, and I'm pretty sure that I would fall over just trying to stand up. I frowned.
"No excuses, put them on quickly." She ordered.
I slipped them on and tried to stand up. I felt as if I was falling forward with every weary step I took. I looked at my mother in hopes she would let me change, but she simply shook her head. She squealed in excitement and just then the doorbell rang, she left to open the door, leaving just me and the disaster waiting to happen that were on my feet. Taehyung entered and he was speechless. He wore a black suit with a tie and a blue rose, corsage in his pocket.
"I'll leave you guys to make your way out" My mother left the room.
Taehyung still stood at the door, his jaw hung upon and his eyes were wide open in shock.
"Wow...You look amazing." He finally managed to say. I tried to look at him but my knees were wobbling uncontrollably.
"Thanks," I said and then again gaining concentration on trying to stand up straight.
"You look good too." I finished as I stood up from my war with my shoes and gravity. "Now could you please help me walk in these." It took him some time to snap out of his gaze and eventually he came to me.
