Present day.
A loud ringing broke my slumber. I peeked with one eye open but the sunlight that shined so brightly from my window, blinding me. My eyes squinted and got used to sunshine as I slowly opened them. My hand searched for my alarm clock and managed to turn it off whilst knocking over a bunch of stuff that lay upon the desk near my bed.
I dragged myself out of bed and checked my phone for any messages. My eyes began to close gently now and again until I saw the time that was written on the top of the phone screen, 7:21. It was the first day of school back from spring break and I was already going to be late.
I rushed to the bathroom and hurried myself, it was already 7:30 which meant only half an hour left to have breakfast, get my things ready for the day and to find all my pieces of homework that were hiding everywhere around the house.
"Ahh, Areum you're going to be late again!" My mother cried from the bottom of the staircase. "Hurry up or you'll miss breakfast!"
Missing breakfast wasn't a big deal, until the smell of scrumptious, fluffy pancakes wafted through the air. Mother's pancakes were the best, she made them all the time and they were my favourite of all foods. I flew down the stairs but the clocked seemed to be moving faster than usual, 7:45, already?
I was torn between the toughest decision I ever had to make. Pancakes or homework? Bits of my homework was yet to be found and now only fifteen minutes left. Homework it is then.
I sighed in grief as I couldn't scoff down the pancakes that I desired and instead I rummaged through the living room, hunting for all my different homework sheets. The door bell rang and I knew who it could be.
"Good morning Taehyung, Areum's in the living room." Mother greeted him.
"Thank you Mrs. Park." He replied. His footsteps got louder and louder until he reached the living room.
"Areum, ready fo... What happened here?"
Taehyung started to chuckle and I sent him death glares which caused him to laugh even harder. How can he be laughing at a time like this? I ran frantically back and forth, searching for the last bit of homework I needed.
"Hey, do you have anything I can eat, I'm starving." He pouted while playfully rubbing his stomach like a little boy.
I scanned the room and found two breakfast bars, grabbing them, I tossed one towards him whilst still running around.
"Thanks." He managed to say with half of the bar already in his mouth.
"Found it!" I cried in joy.
I stuffed the papers I collected from around my living room into my bag and I hurdled towards the front door, one hand munching on my food and the other grabbing his hand on the way.
"Yah, you almost dropped my breakfast bar." He moaned.
"We're going to be late, pabo." I said, trying to pull him through the door. "Annyeong eomma, saranghaeyo!" I called to my mother.
"Annyeong Areum, be good at school and work hard." She cried back.
We finally reached the school gates. There was barely anyone in the front courtyard only a few students rushing in with their arms clung onto their bags and books. Most of the noise came from inside the building where everybody was already settling in. I couldn't wait to see everyone again.
I could see my friends all the time at school and it would keep my mind busy so I wouldn't be reminded of him. Even the thought of my father made me miserable and me just having the same name as him made me shudder in disgust. But he was gone and I didn't care, he couldn't ruin my day.
"What time is it?" Taehyung panted, we were exhausted from running like lunatics. I checked my phone, 7:57. A frown was placed on my face, we were going to be late.
"We have three minutes to get to class." I sighed, trying to gain my normal breathing pace again.
He grabbed my wrist and took off. We ran through the corridors and burst through doors, dodging the large crowds of students greeting each other from their return back. Finally, reaching the classroom, still panting, we peeked inside, praying that Professor wasn't there.
Hey guys, I just wanted to apologise for the short chapters. I honestly don't know if they are short or the right size but I'm trying to write a reasonable amount for each chapter. Ive figured out the plot but still haven't figured out how many chapters this story will last, so sorry in advance if there is too many.
