I woke from the sound of my loud and annoying alarm, I reached my hand out to stop it from buzzing but ended up knocking it off the table and breaking it. I gradually dragged myself to sit up straight and I slumped out of bed, into the shower. I checked my phone, dripping wet, from head to toe, in just my towel. It was 7:04, I actually woke up early, probably because I had nothing to do the previous night, and I fell asleep earlier.
I began to get dressed and a familiar, delicious aroma lingered near my nose. Pancakes. I rushed into the rest of my school uniform and charged down the stairs. I stood in the middle of the doorway and took a long whiff. My mother was no where to be seen, until I heard a load of rattling in the front garden. I glanced out the window and there she was, sorting out her gardening tools to plant in the roses she had grown earlier this month.
I slipped into one of the chairs and dug in. They tasted better this time round, mostly because I haven't had my mothers pancakes in a very long time. I leaned back in my chair, and looked around the room. I smiled to myself, I don't why but I felt my heart become warm. It was a beautiful day and everything seemed to be in its place. The doorbell rang, and Taehyung stood at the door.
"Hey, you're..." He said but I cut him off and smacked his arm as hard as I could. "Ouch! what was that for?" He whined.
I pulled his ear, "That's for not telling my mother that I was with you," I said, releasing him. I waited for his pain to ease before I punched him on his other arm, "And that's for lying to me." I said grumpily. I slipped on my shoes and grabbed my bag and extra books.
"Annyeong Eomma!" I shouted but she didn't hear over the loud shuffling of garden tools being tossed here and there.
I wrote a note and left it under a plant pot nearby and dragged Taehyung out the gate.
"You're up early." He said, still rubbing his arm.
"Well that's bec..." I stopped mid sentence and glared up at him.
I wacked him again, with my books this time, to make sure it would hurt him.
"And that's for getting me grounded, you pabo!" I yelled at him and stormed ahead.
He stood in his place and continued rubbing his arm again.
"Areum!" He called me but I didn't look back.
He continued yelling my name and I carried on walking. His cries stopped and I got worried. Maybe I shouldn't have been so hard. Then out of nowhere, his arms wrapped around me, and he rested his head on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry." He sighed.
"It's ok." I said, quickly pushing his body of mine.
I wasn't mad anymore, I could never stay mad at him for so long. I began to walk but was stopped when he gently pulled me back, caressing my injured hand into his.
He had that dull, teary look in his eyes again. I bit my lip, what was wrong with him?
"It doesn't hurt anymore." I said, reassuring him.
"Oh, good." He smiled and continued walking with my hand in his. I didn't let go though. My hand did still hurt and the warmth radiating of his hand made it burn less.
We arrived to school and saw many students already in their seats, including Jeong. I left Taehyung and went to sit down next to him. I placed my things down and waited for Professor Kang to arrive.
"Hey Areum, have you done the homework?" He said as he turned to me.
My eyes widened and I witted round to him, Professor was going to kill me.
