Part I: Chapter 15

"She saw you," I snapped at him. "She saw you, and now she's..." 

I shook my head, still in disbelief.

We locked stunned eye contact as I said, "Grandma knew exactly who you were, or at least where you came from," I breathed in disbelief, keeping my voice down. "She went off about the Legend of the Raven, a shapeshifting trickster! Damn it, I told you not to, and you just had to go out there and–"

"It was dark," he said defensively, taken aback.

"Well, she saw or heard enough to figure it out. No more seeds, for real this time. I'm trying to tell her she was just crazy, but it's really not working. Promise you'll leave the bird feeders and seeds alone–"

"Buy me my own seeds, then."

"Deal!" I exclaimed immediately, having already offered that yesterday.

"Deal."

Deep breath. Everything's fine. Everything's fine...

"So...that's what you are? Named Raven, descended from The Raven?"

He nodded. "Aves Noir. The Trickster. Demon shapeshifter."

I sighed. How the hell did Grandma know? What the hell is going on? 

"Stuff like that is real?" I couldn't believe it. "How is all that even possible? How did...you...happen?"

"Can...we talk about this later?" he asked quietly.

"Yeah...sure." I swallowed nervously, my mind reeling.

Awkwardly, I went back downstairs and spent the rest of the day with Grandma, considering I'd realized she wasn't completely crazy. 

I instantly regretted giving her any credit as she launched into a story about a legendary pooping contest between The Raven and Coyote.

"Never mind. I shouldn't have asked," I brushed her off.

"It's true! Coyote poop-shot the farthest with his explosive gas and won the buffalo! Don't you besmirch Coyote!"

How does that tale not 'besmirch' Coyote?

Yeah no... Grandma was still crazy.
