Rouges

I was standing utterly silent on my four legs at the beginning of a clearing.

The rouge I had followed all evening rested near a pond in the middle of the small treeless area.

It was exhausted. I could tell that by its heavy pantings.

Even the best hunter could be betrayed by my unmoving form and so was the rouge. It was completely unaware of my presence due to my masked sent.

Suddenly my ears heard a branch crack and my whole body began to tense as my head turned in the direction of the sound. However, all my sharp wolf eyes could make out was an innocuous bunny. It probably tried to get to the pond to quench his thirst as well as the rouge. The bunny though could feel the present of the rouge as well and felt in danger if it was to get closer to the pond.

My attention focused again on my prime target.

The rouge was also alarmed by the bunny's noise and stood ready for battle on its four legs.

"Now or never" My body prepared itself to attack and after another silent moment I bounced.

The wolf just now noticed me but it was too late. With skillful precision my teeth tore into its neck and his body slumped onto the ground.

I howled so the other warriors knew that I got the rouge we where looking for this evening.

I searched for the bunny next to my hiding spot but I could not see it anywhere. It must have run away when I attacked. "Good thing the bunny escaped", I thought to myself. "Mason and his wolf love chasing and eating bunnies."

Soon I heard paws running towards me. Mason was the first to enter the clearing and to notice the rouge on the ground.

"Good job, Leo", Mason praised me dryly via our mindlink. I knew that he wanted to be the one who killed the rouge, but there was no way that I could have delayed the inevitable.

"Sorry", I answerd him honestly. Mason's wolf face softened and I knew that he was not really upset with me.

As a warrior it was our job to keep the peace between the werewolves. This also meant that we had to travell to packs who needed our help if they had probelms with their Alpha, their members, other packs and rouges.

Two months ago Mason, Jake and I had been sent to the Snowflake pack because they had trouble with rouges.

As warriors we also had the responsibility to make sure that the rouges are indeed a problem, that communicating with them did not work and that there is no other thing to do except of killing them. A lot of times rouges are not harmful and dangerous, but lone wolves who got banned from their previous pack or lost their mate. Sometimes the rouges get the chance to get accepted into another pack if the Alpha allows it and if they have not lost themselves to their wolves completely.

If they do lose themselves to their wolfe side then there is nothing not even a warrior can do to help them regain control again, but to kill them.

Tonight that was the case. The last rouge had been hunted down and Mason, Jake and I returned to the pack house to tell Alpha Nate that their pack could live in peace again.

Sometimes my live felt good, when I accomplished a task, made sure that people were safe and made the world a bit better, but what use was all of this when I had nobody to share it with.

A lot of people envied us warriors, because you are a chosen one from the Moon goddess. Chosen to keep the peace and keep the werewolve world balanced. Needless to say that we were very respected by everybody.

However, what all of them forgot was that no warrior ever had a mate.
