As the hurried sound of the footsteps drew even closer all I could think of was masking my scent.
The doorknow in one hand and me halfway trough the door, I tried to clear my head of the vanilla-cinnamon scent that came closer and closer.
But no chance... my mind was stuck on the thoughts of my mate. No clear thought..nothing..
I would get caught.
"Olivia, wait!", I heard someone shout on the lower level.
The footsteps halted for a moment and began to pick up in hurry.
"Live, wait!". Whoever that voice belonged to approached rather quick and soon the voice caught up to whoever was coming closer to me.
"Hey, are you okay?", the male voice spoke but he did it with gentleness.
After a moment I could make out the softest voice I had ever heard.
"Yes.", the voice said in a whisper. Olivia. That was her name.
My wolf roared and screamed mate! Go to mate! over and over again.
The voice of my mate sounded heartbroken and I wondered why.
Did someone hurt her? If so then I would go after that someone and punish him severely.
"I...I just need a moment!", Olivia stammered and it took all I had not to run to her and make sure she was okay.
I wanted to have her in my arms and comfort her.
I wanted to tell her that nobody would ever hurt her again.
Because now, I was here!
"I know what you are going through so why won't you let me help you?", the male voice wanted to know.
"If anyone is going to help her, it sure would be me not you!", I thought angrily.
"Thanks, Tommy, but this is something I have to do on my own.", my mate stated softly.
I winced inwardly. She did not seem okay. And my wolf and me insisted to know why.
I wondered, who the man was, who she called Tommy. Was he friend, a boyfriend?
I shook my head to clear it from this unpleasant train of thoughts.
Who would want a boyfriend with the name Tommy? It sounded so childish...
"Bullshit! I know that you're hurting. Our sister just found her mate and I know that you're not okay with that!", Tommy said outraged.
I had to calm myself again so I would not go down there myself and punch him.
How dare he yelled at my Olivia!
But in all this angry turmoil inside of me, one sentence clearly struck out.
Our sister...
Meaning Tommy was her brother and that also meant I had no reason to be jealous .
Furthermore, Olivia did not find her mate, her sister had.
I exhaled in rush.
That meant no other mate for her.
Just me.
"But I am happy for her!", Olivia answered gently.
That comment made a smile appear on my face. Not only was my mate only mine, but she also sounded generous about her feelings concerncing her sister finding her mate..
"I know that you are happy for her, Live!", Tommy said softly. "But I also know that it's hard on you! Let me help you! You always take care of me, of everyone pretty much. You never allow someone to take care of you!"
Ah my mate was perfect! Strong, Independent, kind and all mine! I would be the only one who took care of her!
"Thanks, Tommy! I really appreciate your help. I just need a minute alone, okay? Sara will wonder where we both are and I don't want to ruin her special day! You are right, I am hurting, but that's how it is. I can't change it," she said in a small voice. "nobody can," Olivia added.
"I can! Damn it!", I shouted in my head.
"But she is my sister and I love her dearly and all I want is her best. And a mate is the best. I just don't want to worry her. She knows me as well as you do and when I don't appear in the hall in a few minutes she will know something is wrong. I just need a minute to.... comprehend everything!", she explained.
"Alright, but if you are not downstairs in 5 minutes, I'll get you!", her brother told her. I could feel that he was not satisfied with her reply, but he respected her wishes.
"You know I love you right?", he asked her gently.
"Yeah, thanks Tommy. I love you too!", my mate said with a smile in her voice.
Soon I could not hear Tommy's footsteps anymore, but I was aware of my mate. If she was to climb up a few stairs, she could see me.
What better moment to introduce myself was there if not now?
So I unmasked my scent and fully stepped into the hallway.
I heard Olivia inhale and then she whispered: "Whose smell is this?"
She ascended up the stairs and I ended up looking at the most beautiful creature I ever had the honour of laying my eyes on.
