Mason looked astonished at me and said harshly: "No you can't let me go this easily! I let your mate get hurt, the same one, who risked her life to bring me back from the dead. I owe her so much and I let her get hurt!"
I looked him deep in the eyes and responded: "That's exactly why. You're beating yourself up over the fact that you let Olivia get hurt anyway. You don't need me to feel more guilty!"
Mason looked taken aback, slumped in his seat and whispered: "You're right. I just....want to apologize."
I nodded and said: "You can do that when she wakes up!"
Mason sight next to me and it was then that I realized that Jake was being very silent. I looked at him and saw him deep in thought.
I understood what must have happened and asked: "Did Sir Alexander tell you about his theory?"
Jake snapped out of his thoughts and tiredly nodded at me.
Mason rolled his eyes and said: "It's just a theory."
I knew that Jake had always wished for a mate as well. That was actually the reason why he was such a flirt. He could not take loneliness very well.
Mason on the other hand did not want a mate as far as I could tell. He never made a secret of sleeping around, but also never expressed the wish to want a mate. Generally I think he was happy with how his life went and not settling down.
I was also aware of the fact that Jake drew hope from me finding my mate. I really hoped that both Jake and Mason were destined to have mates as well. I would not hurt Mason to settle down. He just needed someone sweet, who he thought was worthy of that.
As for Jake, he definitely needed someone sassy, who would tell him exactly when he fucked up and not shy away from confronting him.I looked at Olivia and whished once again that she would just wake up. I imagined her opening her beautiful emerald green eyes and her searching instantly for me and when she would notice me, a smile would spread over her gorgeous face.
I sight deeply. All I could do was waiting. However, waiting was all I knew. For my whole life I had waited for Olivia. So I could stand waiting for her a bit longer, couldn't I?
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
For three days waiting was all I did. I never left Olivia's side, although Mason, Jake and Sir Alexander told me to take a break.
They did not understand. I had already left my mate once and look where that lead to, so no I was not going to leave her.
The council healer came regularly to check on Olivia and to change her bandages. More often than not I growled at him. I could barely hang on to the control I still had over my wolf. Mason and Jake had to hold me back several times. I did feel sorry for the healer, who looked always frightened in my presence, because he was just helping my mate.
Maybe that was exactly the point. He was the only one, who was able to actually help Olivia. All I did was sitting next to her, caressing her face and holding her hand. My wolf was angry that there was nothing we could do and bit by bit his mood influenced my own.
It was on the third evening that Sir Alexander came to me again.
"What would your mate think if she would wake up now and see you like this?", he wanted to know.
I did not answer him, because I was aware that Olivia would share his opinion.
The head sight and took a seat next to me.
"I tried to check my theory the last couple of days and made a lot of phone calls and it seems that I was right. Your uncle was indeed threatened by Mason and Jake and therefore sent the warrior assistants to them. Mason's and Jake's strenght convinced them that they showed warrior qualities and they were taken to the HQ as well."
I nodded my head in understanding, because the head was almost never wrong. When he first proposed the idea to me that Mason and Jake could had posed a threat to my uncle, it was clear to me that Sir Alexander was right.
"Did you tell them?", I wanted to know. My voice did not sound like my own anymore. It seemed detached from all emotions.
"Ah yes!", Sir Alexander smiled. "Jake was over the moon with my news, whereas Mason did not know what to do with this information."
If Olivia would not still be deep asleep I would have chuckled, but my mate was still laying in the hospital bed and nobody knew when or even if she would wake up.
"When did they leave?", I managed to ask.
Sir Alexander turned his head in my direction and told me surprised: "They are still here, of course. They only want to leave with Olivia and you."
And for the first time in three days I smiled.
Sir Alexander left shortly afterwards and I was alone again with Olivia.
I looked at her sleeping face, which was so perfect and I would have given anything to help her wake up.
"Please wake up Livy!", I pleaded with her.
It struck me then that I had called her Livy for the first time. Although I loved her name I also wanted to call her by a nickname. The little girl in her pack had called her Livy and I rememberd thinking that it sounded so lovely. It suited my mate.
"I don't know what to do without you! You just entered my life and changed everything for me. I don't know how to go on without you!", I told her brokenly.
"I want you to wake up so bad! I want to take you home to my pack and that you will be my Luna! I want to wake up every morning and go to bed every evening with you by my side! I want to have pups with you!", I whispered to her.
My eyes were closed and I could feel tears streaming down my face. This was all just too much for me.
Suddenly tingles erupted on my face and soft hands were trying to wipe away my tears. Startled I looked up just to see Olivia's emerald green eyes beaming at me. Her lips were spread into a smile and she whispered: "I want all that as well!"
