Chapter 4

I awoke early the next morning to the alpha's voice in my mind.

"Avery, wake up."

"I'm awake." I grumbled sleepily.

"Good meet me downstairs."

I moaned outloud and felt Travis shift next to me. He rolled over and began to snore softly. That made it easy to silently sneak out of the bed.

I didnt change my clothes. I was too lazy. I was wearing one of Travis's overly large T-shirts and a pair of booty shorts that might as well be underwear. You couldnt see them with Travis's shirt anyhow.

As i made my way downstairs and into the alpha's office i felt a little nervous. I always did around the alpha.

Alpha Matthew has been trying to sweet talk me into becoming his bed buddy since I got here. He started out smooth and made it seem like he really cared. However, over the years i learned to notice the lust-filled gaze he always gave me.

I think it turned him on to have an unmated she wolf next to him who refused him, instead of throwing herself at him like all the others.

I glanced at my messy bun in a wall mirror before knocking on his door.

"Come in." He called. I turned the knob slightly and he beamed up at me.

"Avery dear! I'm so glad you left Travis's arms just to come see me!" He shot me a toothy smile as he rose from the chair behind his desk.

"You called for me alpha." I said in a borderline sarcastic tone.

"Yes of course." He continued to smile as he beckoned me to a window behind his large desk.

"Come for a run with me babe." I glared at him as i approached the window. Curious as to what he was seeing.

It was a beautiful sunrise. The clouds rolling in just the right way. The sky was a glorious purple, pink and orange.

"Of course alpha, but I'd much appreciate it if you wouldn't call me babe as if I'm just another one of your whores."

Now i know what you're thinking. That was an  incredibly stupid and disrespectful thing to say to an alpha. Fortunately, he seemed to like my snarky side so as long as i wasn't out of hand, he dismissed such comments from me.

"Oh Avery, you are much more than that." He whispered into my ear as he played with a strand of my hair.

"Alright, let's get going. We're burning daylight." I said simply as I turned to leave.

"mmm mmm mmm" i heard Matthew say behind me. "You have a gift my dear. That ass is a heavenly creation." I shook my head at him as I continued walking away. Subtly pulling Travis's shirt lower in a pointless attempt to end his eye raping.

We walked out the back door to the woods. I had slowed my pace so that alpha Matthew walked beside me, rather than behind me.

He stripped out of our cothes and shifted. My wolf was on edge. She knew Matthew was a great alpha for his age-being only a year older than Travis-but she felt disrespected by his advances.

Alpha Matthew's wolf was large and white. He had piercing blue eyes that said he always gets what he wants.

His wolf jerked his head in the direction we would be running.

"I think we'll run the perimeter. Hit that lake at that the corner and come back."

he said coolly. "sounds good." I replied.

We ran the perimeter with nothing out of whack. We got to the lake and decided to rest. We had been running for about an hour an half, so the sun was completely up now.

As my head lay on my front paws, something pounced on me. My wolf snarled and lunged at her attcker. She came up short as she met her smirking alpha.

I took control back as she silently slid to the back of my mind, dumbfounded.

I bowed my head in respect and he shook his head. "No need to apologize Ave, it was worth almost getting my head bitten off." Alpha Matthew smirked.

It was my turn to shake my head at him.

We got a last drink before deciding to head back. I walked a about fifty feet in head of the alpha. About ten minutes into our trek home, i felt my fur stand on end.

I sniffed the air and linked with my alpha, "Sir, do you smell that?" "yeah, stay alert Avery, i can't catch up. It would draw too much attention if they plan to ambush us." He replied.

About another fifteen minutes went by and my wolf was agitated. She wanted me to run. I couldn't though. I needed all my senses on high alert. I knew what was following us.

Suddenly I heard something to my right. I swiveled around fast to see what it was. Suddenly I was bombarded and slammed to the ground from behind me.

I heard alpha Matthew snarl ferociously and then let out a warning howl. I howled too, calling for back up.

I was slammed into the dirt again after rising to my feet. There were too many of them.

"Avery! What's going on!" Travis screamed into my mind.

I yelled back urgently, "Rogues!"
