Chapter 25 Travis's POV
"This is taking too long!" I all but snarled at Aunt Sue. She didn't even glance my way.
"I am almost finished. Keep your fur on boy." Was her reply.
I growled at her but walked away. This is irritating. Avery's friends and fellow pack members Jimmy and Tony were at the front of my group. Muscles tensed, ready to take action. I continued my pacing in front of them growling and snarling every so often. I snapped at Anyone who approached me. I'm sure I looked rabid but I couldn't give two shits. Avery was in danger. We've spent too long hunting this bastard down. I don't even know how he's alive. I killed him (or so I thought) when I saw him attacking Avery. I remeber that day like it was yesterday:
I was prowling the outskirts of our boarder. It was unclaimed territory so I was on the look out for rogues. I had chased a deer through here but I slowed down once I realized I had passed our boarder.
I linked Mathew to tell him my where abouts and why. He asked me to run the area for rogues real quick before leaving. So that's what I was doing. I trotted the line of our territory. I had been at it for around fifteen minutes when I heard a noise. I stopped mid stride. Left paw raised off the ground as I perked my ears up. Something was running in the bushes right at me. I crouched where I was, ready to spring if it was a rogue.
The wind blew towards me carrying the smell of rotten flesh and fecal matter. Definitely rogue. I let out a low growl and bared my teeth. At that moment a woman burst through the clearing. Hair a mess, dirty clothes and she reeked of alcohol. I rose from my position seeing no threat from the scrawny creature. Her cheek bones were sunken in. He auburn hair was dull and wirey. She stopped short when she noticed me. She was looking over her shoulder before she stopped. As if something was chasing her.
I stretched out my hearing but there was nothing else around except this poverished woman. I narrowed my eyes at her as she stared me up and down.
"I'm finally free." She croaked. Her dull blue eyes shining in amazement. She took slow steps around me. Watching to see if I'd attack her. I turned in my spot, keeping my eyes trained on her. As soon as she was where she wanted to be she turned and ran as if her tail was on fire. I just stared at her. What a poor creature to be in the state she was in. I shook my head and started back in the direction I was heading. Back from which the rogue appeared.
I continued for about another ten minutes or so when I heard something again. It was faint but it was unmistakeably the sound of flesh hitting flesh.
A fight huh? The sound made my heart pump. I'm a guy, i like action. However I wasn't excited for long. My wolf began to grow anxious.
"Faster." He demanded. Not being one to second guess his instincts I broke into a full out run. My powerful legs pumping as fast as I could force them to. Muscles rippling with every stride.
I broke through the trees and was utterly shocked by what I found. I froze momentarily taking in the sight before me. A man probably a few years older than I, was snatching a girl by her hair. She was on her knees with her head jerked backwards. Not a sound escaped her busted and swollen lips. Not an ounce of emotion or pain crossed her blank face.
"I don't want some stupid child as my mate." He spat down to her.
His mate? This isn't right.
"I've never been tied to one girl and I'm sure as hell not gonna start now!" He bellowed, yanking her blonde hair even tighter. He snatched her to her feet and spun her around only to knee her in the rib cage and simultaneously punch her in the jaw. The girl whirled from the force of his punch and that had my blood boiling. I charged at him releasing an earth shaking roar. The girl rose to her feet as if unaffected and stepped away, not meeting my eyes. I knocked the guy down and scratched at his torso. My claws taking pieces of his flesh with them. I sank my teeth into his throat and pull a chunk of it out. Spitting it out on the ground I watched him waller around until he became motionless. His lifeless body releasing a final breath.
