Chapter 24

Avery's POV

I charged at the unsuspecting Jeremy. My eyes flashed as my anger boiled over. I swung a right hook to his face. I was rewarded by the satisfying crunch of his nose.

I knew I needed to make this fast. I was bleeding out. However, I was counting on my adrenaline to keep me upright long enough to take out this low life.

Jeremy whipped his head back in my direction after having it roll off my fist. He glared at me and before he could raise his hand from his injured arm I swung a left to his rib cage.

Earning another crunch and a pained grunt but he was still standing. I didn't stop. The impact to his ribs made him stumble slightly to the right. As my hand was retreating I brought my leg up and he successful stepped into my round house kick. He flew backwards about eight feet before landing in a heep on his back.

With the swiftness only a werewolf possesses I ran to the fallen man and grabbed him by the collar and punched.

One...stupid

Two...piece

Three...of

Four...shit.

Five...waste of a wolf.

As I was caught in the middle of bashing my "mate's" face in, I failed to notice the other presence enter the room.

I was raising my fist for the sixth and final blow when I was snatched up by my hair. I grunted as I was thrown backwards but managed to right myself midair. I landed on the balls of my feet, left knee to the ground and slid back to a stop. My gaze shot upward and I faltered.

That can't be right. No way. I'm hallucinating....Jeremy got a hit in that I failed to notice. No. I shook my head as I continued to stare at the figure knelt next a sputtering Jeremy. He was coughing up blood and wheezing something fierce. The figure helped him to sit up on his forearms and seemed to be keeping his head from rolling backwards.

I blinked once...twice...three times. I squeezed my eyes and reopened them. Yep still there.

What the hell?

"Are you alright sweety?" She asked.

Jeremy grunted but a smirk appeared on his face.

"Just dandy cupcake." He spit a mouthful of blood to the ground and wiped his mouth. Not once did his eyes stray from me in my still crouched position. The smirk grew a little bigger as if to hide the uncertainty I could see in his eyes. In a flash the look was gone and he turned to the female beside him.

"Be a dear and help me up won't you Bethany?" He asked so sweetly it sounded disgusting to my ears.

Slowly I rose as she nodded and helped him stand. At this point my head was spinning. In the moment of my utter shock to see Travis's mate the adrenaline fled my veins. I've lost too much blood. Time was running out.

"Why so shocked? Me and her go way back. Even before I first met you." Jeremy gloated, his smirk growing to a menacing grin.

He stumbled over to the wall, waving off Bethany's attempt to help.

After positioning himself so that he was leaning against the wall he spoke again.

"Bethany, be a doll and finish her. I'm tired. I've had my fun."

I saw and heard her gulp. Her eyes flickered over his battered body and then slid my way.

"Sure." She responded. Her voice lacking a single ounce of confidence.

Placing a mask over her features and squeezing her shaking hands, Bethany stepped into a fighting stance.

She lunged at me after a few seconds. I simply stepped to the side as she flew by. Startled, she spun around and I saw the fear in her eyes. She lunged again. This time when I stepped away I stuck my foot out causing her land on the floor with an "oomph". I saw Jeremy shake his head.

"What, no more screaming banshee? No more tornadoes?" I goaded.

She scoffed at me as she brought her legs under her once again.

"I tried my damnedest to make him reject me. But dammit that man has the patience of a saint. It seems though that the best way to push his buttons is to threaten you." She mewed at the end.

"Oh the irony. If he could see you now. Tsk. Tsk. He said he'd kill me if I came near you, But where is he now?" She baited me.

It was my turn to swallow.

"He's probably out partying with the boys. You know, guy stuff." I shrugged off my sense of apprehension. My limbs were tiring. My thighs ached where they were punctured. I felt a throbbing in my jaw. No doubt it's bruising. I took a quick moment to assess the room.

My lord...there's blood everywhere. Despite the damage I did to his face, I could smell that the majority of it was mine.

I refixed my gaze to Bethany. I need to end this dammit. Why am I wasting time? She turned her head as if to ask Jeremy a question and I took that moment to attack. I grabbed the back of her head and slammed her face to the floor. I held my hand in position as I trained my eyes on Jeremy. No movement. Shallow breathing. She's out cold.

I lurched from my spot and towards Jeremy. I faked a right and followed it by a left. He had ducked left to avoid my right hook and successfully doubled the amount of force in which my left fist connected with his temple. I used his stunned state to once again throw him to the ground. I sat upon him and used my weight to pin his hips down. At the same time I went back to assaulting his fist.

One more...I brought my fist down but just as I was inches away a force slammed my mind. I clutched my head and cried out in agony. I've never felt anything so painful in my life. I hunched over still ontop of Jeremy who was spitting and sputtering once more. I grasped at my head trying to get rid of the pain. Whimpering I knew I was vulnerable. My vision clouded and I thought for sure I'd pass out soon. Then I faintly heard laughter. The man with hardly a face left was laughing? Why was he laughing?

"Can kill..." Lazira barely whispered out to me.

"What?" I forced to her.

"A wolf...can't kill their mate. Not with the intent to do so."

The pain lessoned as I realized this was bad. Why didn't I know this? I'm so screwed.

I was trying to organize my thoughts around the pain in my skull. It managed to let up enough that I started to see again.

Just as Jeremy's face came into focus the most wicked smile I've ever seen graced his features. Faster than my eyes could comprehend he shot his arm out and struck me. It wasn't until I was across the room and on the floor with my back to the wall that I realized what happened. He struck me. Pain. The pain, it hurts. He struck me in my stomach.

Oh god no. No.

"No..." I whimpered.

Jeremy smiled wider at my expression.

"No. No. No. No. No." I spoke rapidly. I was hyperventilating now.

"No! Noo! NOOOOO!!!" I screamed as loud as my voice would go. My throat was cracking and protesting at the sounds but I couldn't stop. I shook my head furiously and clutched my stomach; screaming louder if possible. Tears pouring down my face. I had so many wounds I was sure I couldn't count them. But none of them added up to the heartache I felt.

Jeremy chuckled lightly, "She does scream."
