Chapter 14

I had all my old stuff finally put away in my small apartment. I manged to snag a job at the diner a few blocks away. The boss was cool, he was the brother of our third in command. He promised I could high tail it out of there at any moment if he ever showed up.

I didn't plan on running. I'm strong. I can handle it. Travis won't scare me away. I am making an effort to move on and I can't always just run away. I need to stand my ground like I've taught myself so many times to do.

Lost in my train of thought I hadn't been on alert. Suddenly I heard a noise in one of the bedrooms. I froze.

Taking on a defensive stance I sniffed the air. I smelled a rogue.

I walked down the hall silently. Keeping all my senses on high alert. I heard a few click click sounds. Almost like a camera lens taking a picture.

I burst through the door at lightning fast speed releasing a loud threatening growl. When I looked around, no one was there. I stood slightly taller, taking in my surroundings. The rogue was definitely here, but not anymore. I glanced toward the window.

The curtains were billowing wildly. I walked to the window and closed it. It was one of those old fashioned bench seat windows. Instead of raising, the window swung out. It was about six foot tall and four foot wide. Anyone could fit through it.

Well this is a little unnerving. I walked out of my aprtment and to the back. I followed the discusting smell of rogue to the next street. Then it disappeared. He must have had a car. I knew i needed to contact alpha Matthew right away. He needs to find out how rogues are getting through his security even now. He has tripled patrol since the attack.

"Alpha." I reached out to him through our mind link.

"What is it Avery?" He replied, tone slightly worried.

"I got the scent of a rogue behind my apartment. It disappears at the next street, but you should still come check it out." I spoke professionally. Keeping out the part of him being IN my apartment too. I don't want anyone to worry.

Matthew snarled viciously before growling out, "Be there in ten."

I shut the connection after that. I need to prepare myself mentally. I know without a doubt Travis will be coming with him. That's his job. He tracks, fights, negotiates, strategizes war plans. Gosh, is there anything that man doesn't do?

I shook my head rapidly to clear my thoughts. Focus Avery. I reprimanded myself. In the back of my head Lazira chuckled. "it's ok child, he is a fine specimen inside and out." I gawked as she started pulling images of our time with him. Alone.

"Stop it! You aren't helping!"

She chuckled again, "maybe not, but you were enjoying it just as much as I was."

"Pervert." I muttered.

"I'm you, so you just called yourself a pervert. Silly." She chastised.

Ugh. What am I going to do with her?

Just before she could plant anymore dirty images in my head i heard running feet. I looked over my shoulder to my apartment. Alpha Matthew had showed up with a few other men.

He spotted me and came over. Sniffing the whole way.

"You're right. Definitely a rogue. Did you see him?" He questioned. I shook my head "no". Just then I heard more feet. I didn't have to turn to know who it was. Travis. And oh. My. God. When came into sight i almost drooled. Like, literal foaming at the mouth.

Travis was very sweaty as if he had been running or training when alpha called him to help out. He was shirtless, wearing a pair of dark jeans that hung low on his waist. The jeans exposed about two inches of his boxers and that delicious V-line going down below. I trailed my eyes upward. His eight pack on full display glistening in the sun from drops of sweat. One bead of sweat fell off his pectorals and i didn't dare watch it trail downward. I snapped my eyes up to his face. Shit. He caught me checking him out. He held a proud look on his face with the slightest hint of a smile.

"I don't care if we get busted again, I wanna look some more." Lazira purred.

"No!" I almost yelled at her. "we have to stop feeling for him Lazira. He just makes me react so strongly to his presence. This is going to be hard." She whined as i trailed off.

The wind picked up and I suddenly smelt something that made me grimace. I turned so fast everyone jumped. "Since you have it handled, and I'm of no further use, I'm going back inside. Goodbye." I rushed out and sprinted away before anyone could respond.

It was very faint, but what i smelt was me. I'm going into heat soon. No wonder i was salivating over Travis. My body naturally wants to mate right now and he is someone I've become so accustomed to.

He was always there to take care of my heat. What now? How on Earth am I going to cope on my own? I'll have to lock myself up. I'm likely to go out and jump the first male I see. Wolf or not.

As i walked inside I went to my bathroom. I splashed some water on my face. I need to calm down. I'm getting all worked up and I'm still a good two days away from my heat hitting me full force.

I heard Lazira chuckle in my head as if I missed something.  I didn't get to ask her what though.

I heard my front door open and I froze. I wasn't scared, or even alarmed. I was anxious. I had a feeling who was going to come through that door any second. And I wanted him to.

Sure enough, the door was pushed open deliberately slow. I faced the doorway and there he was. In all his glory. He looked around and raised his head. Nostrils flaring slightly as he sniffed the air. Oh God.

He licked his lips. That got me wet. What the hell? He licked his lips and i'm wet? This isn't good.

His eyes finally fell on me. He took in my short shorts and low cut tank top. My breasts exposed slightly. His eyes lingered there. Then, he continued trailing my body with his eyes. I squirmed under his gaze and he met my eyes. His eyes were so dark. Filled with want. No, NEED.

I took a step back and he took one forward. Soon I was against the wall with no where to run. He grabbed my hands and pinned them above my head in one of his. He pressed his rock hard chest against me and I whimpered at the contact. I wanted more. I hated so much that I couldn't stop my desire for him.

He tilted my head to the side, exposing my neck. He trailed his nose up from my shoulder. His lips stopped at my ear. Warm breath sending shivers throughout my body.

I should be pushing him away. He has a mate. he already met her. I should be questioning why he is even touchìng me right now. His wolf should be angrry. He should be fighting him for control to get rid of me. But I couldn'tt think at all.

My mind was clouded by desire. I could feel my heat rapidly speed up. I was about to be in a full blown heat days early just from him being near. Lazira was loving every second of it. She was purring in the back of my mind. She craved his touch as if we were stranded in the desert and he was a glass of water.

As he trailed his nose back down my neck I heard him inhale deeply. This caused my heart to hammer and my breathing to almost hyperventilate.

He hasn't done anything and I was breathless. This needs to stop.

"Travis." I breathed.
