Chapter 30

Avery's P.O.V

I blinked a few times. I would like to say I was shocked. However, somewhere deep down I must have known the truth. His words just seemed, right. I had no doubt of his honesty. Nor did I have a reason to believe him. Yes I did, my wolf was quiet. Acknowledging his words and giving no protest. I nodded mh head once and shifted my eyes to the side slightly. I counted 23 men.

"You must be an Alpha. You smell of power and these men reek of obedience. Loyalty if you will." I stated to my father who's name I was unaware of at the moment.

"You could say that." He gave a sad smile.

It was about this time the knowledge of my situation presented itself to my conscience. I was standing practically naked admist twenty four males. We may be wolves and see people change everyday but that does not mean we are completely barbaric. I do have moral standards and enough sense in my scattered brain to understand this isn't exactly kosher.

I casually tightened the blanket around myself as I raised my head and spoke loud, authoritatively but not challenging.

"I am Avery. Top fighter in my pack. Pleased to meet you all."

A large man stepped out from behind my father. He had shaggy brown hair and crystal blue eyes. He grabbed my hand held it to his lips. Inhaling as he did so. He exhaled and raised his eyes to mine which had shifted to his wolf's amber color.

"We are beyond happy to have you back Princess. You do not know how much you mean to us." He dropped my hand but Not before rubbing his thumb over it caringly.

I let my hand resume it's position at my side as I simply nodded again. I'm doing that a lot.

Suddenly an urge struck me and I just could not deny it.

"I wish to run. You all may join me, or may go back to what you were previously doing." Without halting for a response I was on all fours and gently stepping from the blanket which provided my shield. The man who kissed my hand was the first to change. He erupted into this magnificent white wolf. He was every bit or Travis's size if not a bit bulkier.

For some reason my wold decided to approach this wolf. She raised her head, straightened her shoulders, and every step she took screamed confidence. The white wolf squared up. Chest out. Tail erect. Feet planted firmly, and eyes straight ahead. I watched on in curiosity as my wolf proceeded walking to the white male. When she reached him she did not stop. She slowed her walk to a deliberately slow pace. She curved her body to the right and began to circle the wolf. Not in a manner as to challenge him, but more to study him. Appraise his attributes. Wolves are very vain animals. They love to know how good they look. Lazira allowed her tail to bend slightly just enough that it brushed along his body as she circled him. The wolf shuddered at the contact. Chills running down his spine as he did an incredible job of keeping them from hindering hus stance. As she completed the circle she stepped outwards, tail dropping back behind her and continued the charade. She made 4 passes, each one wider than the rest. Upon her completion she stopped in front of the wolf. She lowered her head a quarter inch indicating she was pleased with her study. The white wolf dropped his nose to the ground, right paw extended to me, left paw bent under himself as he bowed.

After what seemed an appropriate anount of time Lazira sat back on her haunches. The white wolf was released from whatever spell she placed on him as he raised his head but chose to lie down. In the amount of time we took assessing the white wolf a few others had changed as well.

Lazira studied each an every one with careful eyes but did not circle any of them. When all that were going to change seemed to have done so, I stood up and headed the lead. I began to run the perimeter of my pack's land without entering it. There was too much pain there right now.

The white wolf fell in step on my right hand side as I kept my pace slow and my steps steady. The rest of the men fell in line behind me including my father who was somewhere in the middle. This felt right. Leading a group of men through the woods. It felt as if I had done it all my life. Wolves are pack animals. We hunt as a pack. We run as a pack. We live as a pack. This felt like my pack. The one I currently belong to was family. But it didn't feel like this did.

"Home." Sounded Lazira's voice in my head.

Not edited. Please enjoy. And forgive me for falling off the face of the Earth.
