Chapter 22

Travis POV

I was running full speed through the woods. I knew I was going to fast for my group of pack warriors but I couldn't wait any longer. Avery was in pain. I couldn't bare to think about the fact that the bastard may have touched her. I snarled as I shook the thoughts from my mind.

I could hear the steady pants and thudding paws behind me. I wasn't too far ahead of them. I slowed as I reached the area that I had heard Avery's scream at.

As I sniffed around the rest of the pack fanned out to cover more ground. I picked up a faint smell of rogue and growled.

A few other members came to my side to catch the scent. We followed it until it became increasingly stronger.

Once I had locked in on it I began a slow, calculated run. Less than half my normal speed, but I couldn't afford to lose the trail.

Ten members of the pack stayed in that area checking over for anymore scents as the rest followed me.

I sent Matthew a message through the pack link.

"Alpha, we got a lead. Approximately two and a half miles South East of the river."

"Got it, we'll flank you from the West."

The scent was strong now. Maybe an hour old. I picked up speed, but still kept sure I was dead on the mutt's trail.

As I was running a sudden force slammed it's way into my mind tearing down all my walls. The whole pack was broadcasted my thoughts and what just happened. The force sent me flying backwards about fifteen feet. I tumbled head over tail about six times before landing hard on my snout.

I shook my head as the intrusion lingered.

"I'm sorry." Came Avery's voice. I felt her whisper start to fade. I bolted to my feet and began running in that same direction but this time ignoring the Rogue's trail. My wolf could sense her.

"AVERY! AVERY! WHERE ARE YOU?" I shouted endlessly as I ran, hoping something would reach her. But she was gone. Just as soon as she appeared, she was gone again.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see a few wolves wincing. They were opened up to the blast I felt and they could hear my shouting. Sense my panic. I focused as best I could on blocking them out again. Once they had their own minds back I heard a few savage growls. They knew we were close.

I kept running in the direction my instincts told me. Soon, we met up with Alpha Matthew. The witch was with his group. His men had heard the exchange as well. It only made them more determined because we knew she was still alive. Well, she was. I cleared my head at those thoughts. Ignoring what her words could have meant.

We all came to a stop and awaited further instructions from the alpha.

"We need you to get started on the spell please." Matthew spoke to the witch. She simply nodded and closed her eyes.

She opened them again and looked to me, before looking back at Alpha Matthew.

"It's going to take a little more time than I thought. Maybe thirty minutes. Forty five tops." She spoke outloud to us all.

I roared in anger. Swiping my claws across the trunk of a tree and hearing it fall. My wolf had taken over mostly. The muscles in my legs rippled as I forced him to stay in one place.

"WE DON'T HAVE FORTY FIVE FUCKING MINUTES!"

"I apologize Travis, but it is the best I can do. Now, we can either stand around talking about it, or you can shut your damn muzzle and let me get to work." She responded harshly.

The alpha had a ghost of a smile on his face as I forced myself away from the elder. No need to do anything rash. I set about wearing a trench into the ground with my pacing as I awaited for the spell to be broken.

Hang on baby.

I know it's short and I'm sorry. But I should be updating again tomorrow. Let me know what y'all think!
