Chapter 33

Avery's P.O.V.

We had just about finished eating when a sudden rush of anxiety completely consumed me. I stood from my chair knocking it over in the process. I grabbed my chest as it felt my heart would pound out of my chest.

The whole room had gone quiet as every eye looked my way in concern. My hands shook, my eyes clouded over and I knew they were Lazira's crystal blue at the moment. I heard a noise.

I cocked my head to the side to listen.

"Ave-" my father started before Lazira snarled his way at the same time I threw my hand up. He stood in concern but did not take offense to the action.

I swiveled my head towards the door. Back in the direction of my pack's land. I listened. I stretched my hearing as far as I could. And finally I heard it clearly. A cry. A baby crying. It snapped something inside me saying there was nothing more important than getting to that child.

"A baby." I spoke. As I turned on my heels and walked to the door.

"Joseph, Seth, accompany her." My father ordered. I heard two chairs move and two sets of feet follow behind me.

I didn't waste a single second. The moment my feet hit the dirt I shifted. I was running before all fours hit the ground. I took off at break neck speed powered solely by adrenaline and sheer animal instinct. I didn't bother waiting for the other two. If they fell behind they could track me.

I approached the pack boarder and called to Travis.

"What is that." I asked through our mind link

"Baby, he's alive. Our little boy is alive!" Travis immediately responded.

My feet faltered as my heart skipped a beat. I rolled face first and end over end about five times. I stood shaking myself off before I broke out into a run again.

It can't be. I felt his life leave. I felt the detachment. There was nothing left.

"Have to find pup." Lazira growled out. Nothing but mother wolf ferocity emitting from her.

I dug my claws in and stretched my legs further. Running harder. Running faster. I arrived at the pack doctors office. A member was walking out of the door and I ran through the door before it closed. I turned the corner and found the room I had been in. Feet sliding, claws scraping to stay upright as I run into the door way.

I shifted back to my human form before I was even balanced again. Travis immediately ripped his shirt off and handed it to me. I slid it on as I approached the glass box again. Head cocked to the side. Breathing slowed. I reached my hand to the clear wall and looked into it. My son turned his head and looked up at me. He blinked. Once, twice, three times. Before his eyes closed and soft snores were heard.

I heard Joseph and Seth enter the room and Travis growled. Without looking away from my son I said, "They're with me." I felt Travis loosen up as he seemed to simply take my explanation.

I glanced at the doctor.

"How?" I didn't know what else to say.

"I couldn't give up." Was his simple answer.

"What is wrong with him. What is the reason he still needs the box?" I asked.

"Well, he still isn't breathing on his own-"

"Can I heal him?" I interrupted.

"I beg your pardon?" The doctor asked bewildered.

"I can assume another wolf's injuries and heal them. Will it work on him?" I explained.

"I-um-I really don't know." He answered.

"I want to try." I stated.

"Let me help." Joseph stepped forward.

I glanced at him.

"We are cousins. We share the same blood line. The same powers. Please, allow me to help. Two healers will do more good than one." He spoke to me.

"Okay." I responded.

I looked back at my son as I said, "Let's do this."
