Chapter 20

I lay in the bed, rubbing soft circles across my stomach. It seems so surreal. I'm pregnant. I smile to myself as I again picture that set of twins hanging onto Travis. Oh he would be such a great dad. "I don't wish you startle you dear, but we must hold off on dreams for the future for now." Lazira states.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"Well for one, we must do our best acting here soon. He can't know his mark pains us. He must believe he has control over us." She answers.

"And secondly?" I probe her cautiously.

"Secondly, as long as his mark is present and we do not accept it, it will cause damage to your body. The stress of the pain will be too much....and eventually, the venom will attack our pups."

I gasp in horror. She's right! If I accept his mark, the pain will stop but Travis's pups will be killed immediately! They are not of Jeremy so his wolf's venom will see them as a threat. If I endure the pain I can save them, but I must act quickly. Taking too long will cause danger to them as well!

"We must act now Lazira!" I announce.

"Agreed..." She responds.

"Hey....Lazira?"

"Yes, child?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"Anything dear."

"Where do you keep going? Why do you keep disappearing?"

"I am hiding the pups....the best I can. However, I can't do it much longer. His mark is taking too great of a tole on us." She explains.

"Oh, that's not good."

Before she could say more, the door opened. Jeremy walks in with a steel bowl in his hand.

"Hello mate." He spits the words out like they leave a bad taste in his mouth.

"I gotcha some grub." He states as he tosses the bowl on the ground. A brown sludge slops around and over the sides of the bowl onto the floor.

I suppress a growl at the action. I have an idea of what he plans to make me do.

I plaster a sweet smile on my face as I clasp my hands in mock glee. "Oh honey, I can't believe how sweet you are. Thinking of me. Pssssh how silly." I rattle lightly as I walk towards him.

"Whatever." He dismisses with a wave of his hand.

"Eat. I can't have you passing out before the fun begins." He smiles wickedly.

I bend to grab the bowl, but a hand on my shoulder prevents me from standing upright with it.

"You'll eat on the ground. Without silverware. Like the dog you are." He orders in my ear.

My teeth elongate and my lips curl back in a soundless snarl. I force it away as I answer, "As you wish dear."

He laughs to himself as I sit on floor and begin eating with only my mouth. I don't actually swallow any of it. That would be stupid. I'm a prisoner for crying out loud!

Seemingly pleased with his little joke, Jeremy exits the room.

I stand abruptly and wipe my face.

"I'm going to kill him." I promise.

"All in due time child. Very well done."

I give a huff as i take the bowl and pour it's contents into one of the drawers. I then place it back on the floor.

He'll get what's coming.

Travis POV

I was called back to the pack house so everyone could regroup. We laid out a map of the places already searched. I marked the area that I heard Avery's screams in.

The alpha agrees with me. That bastard has to have a witch with him. We call upon one of our pack elders. An elderly lady we call Aunt Sue.

Aunt Sue is a witch. Her mate was a werewolf, that is why she is a part of our pack. Unlike other creatures, witches get more powerful with age. Call it wisdom, experience, more practice, or whatever.

All I know is that Aunt Sue is the oldest witch I've ever encountered.

Aunt Sue arrived and we just debriefed her on the situation.

"Can you help us?" Alpha Matthew questions her.

"Yes, I believe I can. What you have described to me seems to be a petty trick rather than a real spell. It should be simple." She states.

"Then we leave in an hour." The alpha annoumces.

My wolf is angry. He thinks an hour is way too long. He wants to leave now.

"Even if we do leave, we can't do anything until the witch is there." I explain to him.

He only growls in response.

"I don't like it either but we have no choice. The men need to rest a little and we must go in there on full alert. Besides, Avery is tough. She'll make it." I say. I'm not sure who I'm trying to convince more here, him or me.

My wolf simply huffs at me and returns to pacing back and forth inside my mind.

I spent the next hour with Matt strategizing. We have decided to split into two groups. He leads team A, and I lead team B. We want the area surrounded as soon as possible but we can't do much until we've seen this place.

We are going in here basically blind and I can't stand it.

Finally, the hour is up.

We divide the warriors into our teams.

One wolf will be carrying Aunt Sue as he runs.

"Alright men! Tonight, we go to retrieve one of our own! These rogues, these mutts, will learn that you do not mess with us!" Alpha Matthew roars and in response there are howls all across the line up.

"We leave no wolf behind! Even those who may fall!" More howls and barks of agreement.

"Let's move out!" He yells.

I take off with my team at break neck speed. We leap into the woods and battle cries are going off everywhere. These rogues will be sorry they took one of our members. That they took my Avery.

"I'm coming Angel."
