Breaking Free

Chapter 5

"Miss James please collect your information and start planning your schedule at the front desk. Everyone please give a round of applause for Miss James, she'll be starting her first semester here at Grover after the summer break in the beginning of the fall semester," Mr. Grovers says and everyone else in the room starts to clap except some of the girls who were angry they didn't get the spot.

"Congrats!" Emily shouts and I turn to see her standing by the doorway, Austin by her side and my bag on the other side.

"Thanks," I mouth and then turn to look at Grovers.

"I apologize I have a meeting to attend. I'll turn over the mic to the lovely Emily West," Grovers says and walks over to Emily handing her the mic. Emily walks over to the place Grovers was standing and raises the microphone to her mouth.

"Hi my name is Emily, and if you were paying attention you would know that. But to those who unfortunately didn't quite make the cut, please collect your things for the bus that will be coming in the next hour to drive you all to the airport or wherever you need to be taken," Emily says into the mic and then turns it off. People start to make their way to the door shortly after. Austin walks over to Emily and hands her my suitcase as I walk over to them.

"Oh my gosh I'm so happy for you!" Emily exclaims handing me the handle of my suitcase. "And myself because now I finally have a roommate!"

"Wait we're roommates?" I ask surprised.

"Yep," she says popping the p on yep. "I'll help you get your student information and schedule just follow me." I start following her down to the front office and eventually get there and to the desk.

I got my information and planned a schedule with Emily, Austin left when we got up front.

"I'll show you to the room," Emily says smiling and I follow her outside.

"So is there any orientation type thing here?" I ask as we walk down the sidewalk.

"Well not an official one, it's more of a party," she says and waves to a guy across the way looking over at us.

"Who's that?" I ask locking eyes with him and almost tripping over my own feet.

"That's Noah, my-," she pauses. "Friend. We go way back."

"Is every guy at this school hot?" I ask. "I mean every guy I've seen so far is like super hot."

"Basically," Emily says laughing then turning right. "This is the building our dorm is in." She says and walks through the main entrance.

"So when is that party you were talking about?" I ask. "And are you planning on going?"

"Hell yeah I'm going, and it's tonight. Do you want to come with me? I'm going with a couple friends but you can join us," Emily says walking up the stairs and down the hallway.

"Sure, I guess I'll go then," I say smiling. "We're room 239 in building A, right?"

"Yep. Did they give you a key?" She asks stopping me at a door with 239 on it.

"Yeah, I stuck it in my bag though," I say stopped as well.

"That's fine, I have mine," she pulls out a key from her back pocket along with her phone and opens the door. The room was a lot bigger than I expected. It was probably bigger than my whole house back home. It was even nicely decorated.

"This is amazing," I say looking around.

"I hope you don't mind but I took some time to decorate your side when I found out the winner would be bunking with me. I hope you like it," Emily says walking over to her closet.
