We never thought this could happen
We played it safe and thought this hatred acted on was a thing of the past
We never thought about the danger of being alive
Our lives are constantly built on resistance
Our every breath is defiance and our love is rebellion
We never thought there'd be a rise in the market for the black sheep's wool again
You mourn us today, but will you protect us tomorrow?
Or will you buy the black sheep's wool?
Every day we wander around, like today can't be the day before a tragedy
Bloody handprints and screams are ingrained in their minds
We never thought this could happen
We walked too tall and our heads became challenging targets
Now we crawl on all four, hoping to get low enough to not be seen
Tomorrow we commit more resistant, defiant and rebellious acts
We never thought this could happen
